Nerikiri is an exquisite type of wagashi crafted from white bean paste and glutinous rice flour, celebrated for its smooth texture and artistically sculpted seasonal designs. These confections are often featured in tea ceremonies, offering both a delicious taste and a visual feast. Participants will learn to shape and color them into stunning forms like flowers or leaves, perfectly suited to the season.
Tea Tasting Like a Local
Savor three unique varieties of Japanese tea—Sencha, Genmaicha, and Hōjicha—sourced from a renowned tea shop in Yanaka. Participants will discover the traditional Japanese methods of brewing each tea, gaining an appreciation for their distinct aromas, flavors, and cultural importance.

Craft exquisite wagashi (Japanese sweets), master the art of brewing artisan teas, and experience the welcoming spirit of Tokyo’s Yanaka neighborhood.
Participants will create Wagashi for 45 minutes (one wagashi, or two in 60 minutes), set the table, and savor them with a delightful tea tasting, all in a homestyle setting!
These are considered high-class Japanese sweets known as Jo-Nama-Gashi (Jo signifies Upper or high class, and Nama means freshly made) and are traditionally served at tea ceremonies and special occasions. Nerikiri is renowned for its stunning presentation, often featuring scenes, flowers, and auspicious motifs with a subtle taste. The basics will be taught, encouraging participants to craft their own Nerikiri using their creativity!
Three essential and popular everyday teas (Sencha, Genmaicha, and Hojicha) will be served, reflecting how they are enjoyed at home! Understanding how teas are appreciated in a domestic setting offers a casual yet enlightening experience. The workshop will demonstrate how to serve the tea, highlight the differences, and explain the appropriate TPO for each tea.
