Exploring Mole National Park and the Towns Around it - We like exploring so we usually travel by ourselves. Since we'd never been to Africa before and were on a tight schedule (between the work that took us to Ghana and when we had to leave) we took a recommendation and signed on with Naaya tours. It worked out really well. Although the official language in Ghana is English, outside of the bigger cities a lot of people only speak one of the 80 or so indigenous languages, and sometimes in a local dialect. To accommodate us Naaya adapted their 3-day tour into about 2 ¼ days. In that time we saw a lot. In the park we saw elephants, baboons, kob, warthogs, waterbucks, bushbucks, monkeys, beautiful birds and other wildlife. Our guide (David) grew up in the park; his father was a ranger. He and the rangers were great at spotting wildlife and could identify all of it. At one point we were driving along a road, they quickly stopped the truck, jumped out and dashed into the forest.. They had noticed a fresh elephant track and about 10 or 20 yards in we found the elephant. Outside of the park we saw a lot of local artisans making shea butter, tanning, dyeing and sewing leather, extracting peanut oil, and it wasn’t a show, it was ordinary people doing what they do everyday and telling us about it. He also helped us navigate the markets, introducing us to local food and giving advice on what was a fair price.
