Tamarindo is an excellent location for learning to surf, offering clean and gentle waves that ensure a fun and safe experience. All you need to bring is your swimsuit, sunscreen, and a positive attitude! Let’s enjoy some great waves together.

We meet at the PARKING right next to the restaurant “El Vaquero”, look for the purple flag that says “La Muda” or ask the parking guy/girl for “La Muda Surf”. If you for whatever reason have trouble finding us, you can ask for La Muda Surf, Carlos Brown, Isabella Carrera and Jeison Brown.

Great experience! - Detailed dry land lesson, 1 instructor per surfer in the water, very beginner friendly! Got up plenty of times with my partner. Was a blast! Expect to be sore the next day.

Fantastic, fun first time surfing experience! - Carlos and his team at La Muda surf were amazing. Our kids (11, 13 and 15) were standing up and having a blast almost right away. You could tell th people who skipped the lesson because they were falling constantly and not having fun. Carlos speak excellent English and covered all of the safety and surfing instructions perfectly. It was especially fun when the instructors cheered our kids on when they had a great run! I could not recommend Carlos and La Muda surf more highly! One of the best things we did in all of Costa Rica!

Fantastic fun surfing experience! - Carlos and his team were phenomenal! My 3 kids (11-15) learned to surf very quickly and safely and had an absolute blast! It was fun to watch the surf instructors cheer them on when they stood up and had a good ride. Carlos also speaks excellent English and my kids understood every word of both the safety and surfing instructions. Literally with 20 minutes of beginning the lesson, they were up on their feet surfing. Really you shouldn't try surfing or let your kids try surfing without taking a lesson from Carlos and La Muda. Watching other people, you could easily tell which people skipped lessons. They had the wrong stance and fell constantly. That would not be fun.
I could not recommend La Muda surf more. Really the best experience we had in Costa Rica.

Great first surfing experience! - AMAZING experience! My 2 teens (13, 15) were both able to get up on the boards and had an absolute blast. Spent about 20 minutes before getting in the water, so time surfing was around 1.5 hrs.

Girl’s trip 2026 - My friends and I booked these lessons for my birthday! I had such a great experience and it was a great girls trip. We surfed for 2 hours and didn’t want to get out of the water. Worth the the money :) great girls trip

Great Family Activity - Great communication. Had one-on-one instructors who were patient and helpful/encouraging. Good value for the price! Would definitely recommend.

Wonderful surf school & experience! - La Muda was great! It was very easy to book lessons for our 12 and 14 year old daughters, easy to find the location, and the pre-lesson on the sand & boards really set the girls up for success, all while making it fun! Our girls quickly stood up on the boards once in the beautiful water and the instructor was so helpful and attentive. The location is conveniently next to a restaurant/brewery and just down the street from several shops. Our girls had so much fun; surfing was a highlight of their trip in Costa Rica and I would absolutely recommend lessons with La Muda Surf School!

Everyone had a blast! - We had a group of 9, ages 9-46. They accommodated everyone and gave us lots of attention while in the water to help all be successful! Everyone had a blast! Highly recommend!

If I can get up, you can get up! - Carlos lesson has been distilled into straight forward advice focus on getting you up and surfing immediately. This was my first time at 52 and I got up on my second try! Miguel was helpful in the water and made for a great day!
