Prepare for an incredible bike tour through Ayutthaya. - Wat Mahathat - Situated in Ayutthaya, Thailand, Wat Mahathat is a prominent and renowned temple in the ancient city. It is celebrated for the iconic Buddha head nestled within the roots of a Banyan tree. Established in the 14th century, the temple served as a royal monastery. Although its central prang has partially collapsed, it remains a remarkable example of early Ayutthaya architecture.
- Wat Phra Ram - Wat Phra Ram is another historic temple in Ayutthaya, located near the Grand Palace. Built in 1369 by King Ramesuan on the site where his father, King U-Thong, the founder of Ayutthaya, was cremated, the temple features a prominent prang and several smaller chedis. It is surrounded by tranquil water gardens, highlighting the significance of water in Thai culture.
- Wat Ratchaburana (Temple of the Royal Restoration) - Also in Ayutthaya, Wat Ratchaburana is a well-preserved temple constructed in 1424 by King Borommarachathirat II. It was built to honor his two elder brothers who perished in a duel for the throne. The temple’s main prang is richly adorned and showcases exquisite stucco work. Beneath the prang lies a crypt that once held valuable treasures and artifacts, many of which are now exhibited in the Chao Sam Phraya Museum.
