Amboni is linked to captivating tales of a deity dwelling within the caves, where traditional ceremonies continue to be performed to this day. Ethnic groups such as the Segeju, Sambaa, Bondei, and Digo, who resided near the caves, utilized them for prayer. Certain chambers are revered as sacred spaces for worshiping spirits, one of which is known as “Mzimu wa Mabuvu.” It is believed by some that a powerful deity resides there, capable of healing illnesses, alleviating suffering, or enhancing fertility.

This is also the place where Osale Otanga, who famously resisted colonialists, once lived. The caves are steeped in enchanting stories, including one about a cavern used as a hideout by a renowned pair of Robin Hood-like figures during the 1950s Mau Mau uprising.
