Machame Gate (1800 m) to Machame Camp (2835 m)

After enjoying breakfast, the operator will pick you up from the hotel around 8:00 am and transport you to Machame Gate. Along the journey, you will pass by coffee and banana plantations cultivated by the Chagga community. Upon reaching Machame Gate, you will complete park formalities such as registration before commencing your Mount Kilimanjaro climb from Machame Gate. The first day’s trek takes you through a lush tropical rainforest up to Machame Camp (2835 m). A picnic lunch will be provided along the way.

Machame Camp (2835 m) to Shira Cave Camp (3750 m)

The hike begins around 8:00 am. You will ascend for an hour to the forest’s edge, followed by a gentler climb through the moorland zone for another hour. After a brief lunch (snacks) and rest, the journey continues up a rocky ridge to the Shira Plateau. From this vantage point, you can view the eastern direction and the western breach with its breathtaking glacier.

Shira Cave Camp (3750 m) to Barranco Camp (3900 m)

To aid acclimatization, the trek involves ascending to a high altitude before descending to a lower one. The route leads through the alpine desert to the Lava Tower (4600 m) before descending to Barranco Camp (3900 m). This descent takes approximately 3 hours and offers excellent photo opportunities of the Western Breach and Barranco Wall. The campsite is nestled in a valley below the Barranco Wall, providing a memorable sunset view while awaiting dinner.

Barranco Camp (3900 m) to Barafu Camp (4640 m)

Today’s Kilimanjaro trek leads from Barranco Camp, renowned for its giant groundsels. The journey involves climbing the impressive Barranco Wall, which separates the group from Kibo’s southern slopes. The climb over rocks is not technical but is long and tiring, leading to Karanga Camp for lunch and the last water stop before the summit. The trek continues through the alpine desert to Barafu Camp (Base Camp, 4640 m).

Barafu Camp (4640 m) to UHURU PEAK (5895m) then down to Millennium Camp (3950 m)

Distance: 15 km

The day begins very early, around midnight, with light tea and cookies prepared for you. The climb involves ascending scree for 4 to 5 hours, gaining significant height over a short distance. The views are spectacular. The group should reach the crater rim at Stella Point (5756 m) as the first sunlight appears. From Stella Point, it takes about an hour to reach Uhuru Peak (5895 m), where photos can be taken before descending to Barafu Camp for lunch and rest, then continuing down to Millennium Camp (3950 m) for dinner and overnight stay.

Millennium Camp (3950m) to Mweka Gate (1630m)

Distance: 14 km
Habitat: Moorland & tropical rainforest
Meals: Breakfast and lunch provided
After breakfast, the final descent continues from Millennium Campsite to Mweka Gate, where certificates will be collected. After completing park formalities and receiving certificates, a private vehicle will transport you back to your hotel for a warm shower. It’s certainly time to celebrate!
