Arusha to Marangu Gate then Mandara Camp
Kilimanjaro National Park - After enjoying breakfast, guests will be picked up from their lodge in Arusha and transported to the Marangu gate. Once the necessary paperwork is completed, the trek begins, leading through the lush rainforest. Alongside the remarkable vegetation, there is an opportunity to spot some primates on the way to Mandara Hut. After a well-deserved rest, the guide can lead a visit to the Maundi Crater, offering a stunning view of the Kenyan interior.
MANDARA HUT (2700M) TO HOROMBO HUT (3700M)
Kilimanjaro National Park - The day starts with an early breakfast. Shortly after departing Mandara Hut, the timberline is reached, leading into the heath and moor zone. Approximately 4 – 6 hours later, Horombo Hut comes into view at an altitude of 3700m. From the hut, there are breathtaking views of Mawenzi, Kibo, and the expansive Masai steppe.
ACCLIMATIZATION TREK TO ZEBRA ROCKS (4020M) THEN BACK TO HOROMBO HUT (3700M)
Kilimanjaro National Park - Today is dedicated to acclimatization, which is crucial for increasing the chances of reaching the summit. After a leisurely breakfast, a 4-hour trek to the Zebra Rocks (4020m) follows. The rocks are named for their distinctive black and white stripes. Upon returning to Horombo Hut, a warm lunch awaits. The afternoon is free for relaxation and regaining strength for the next day’s hike.
HOROMBO HUT (3700M) TO KIBO HUT (4700M)
Kilimanjaro National Park - Today’s journey is long and challenging. The well-maintained trail passes the “Last Water Point” and continues across the “saddle,” a nearly vegetation-free plateau connecting Kibo with Mawenzi. The destination is Kibo Hut, typically reached in about 5 – 6 hours. An early evening meal is followed by an early night, as the night will be brief.
KIBO HUT (4700M) TO UHURU PEAK (5895M) & DOWN TO HOROMBO HUT (3700M)
Kilimanjaro National Park - Today marks “The Big Day” – the summit stage. The final ascent begins around midnight and is long and demanding. Passing the Hans Meyer Cave at 5220m, the climb steadily progresses. At sunrise, Gillman’s Point (5681m) is reached – the crater rim of Kilimanjaro – where the sun begins to warm the land. The cold of the night is soon forgotten, and after an additional 1 – 2 hours of hiking, Uhuru Peak at 5895m is reached. Upon returning to Kibo Hut, a warm meal is served, followed by a 1 – 2 hour rest before descending to Horombo Hut.
MANDARA HUT (2700M) KILIMANJARO NATIONAL PARK GATE (1860M)
Kilimanjaro National Park - The final stage traverses the heath and moor zone to Mandara Hut (2700m), where a warm lunch is provided. Soon, the tropical rainforest is passed again, and after a total of 6 hours of trekking, the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (1860m) is reached. After bidding farewell to the mountain guides, a short transfer returns guests to their hotel in Arusha. There, a warm and relaxing shower awaits, along with the celebration of the successful summit of Kilimanjaro.
