Barranco Camp to Karanga Valley Camp
Mount Kilimanjaro - The trek begins with an ascent offering expansive panoramic views, entering the upland desert climatic zone and traversing the lava ridges beneath the Western Breach glaciers. The distinct pinnacle of the Lava Tower (4640m) is reached, a perfect spot for lunch. In the afternoon, a steep descent leads to the night’s camp at the base of the Great Barranco Valley (3960m), sheltered by towering cliffs with extensive views of the plains below.
Karanga Valley Camp to Barafu Camp
Mount Kilimanjaro - The day starts with a descent into the Great Barranco, a vast ravine. A steep exit follows, up the Great Barranco Wall, separating from Kibo’s southeastern slopes. A steep climb from Karanga Valley leads to the night’s camp at Karanga Camp, set at 3963m. For those feeling strong, a mid-afternoon acclimatization trek to around 4200m is available before descending back to camp for the night.

The Lemosho Route is often regarded as the premier path on Mount Kilimanjaro. In the past, climbers primarily used two main routes: the Marangu (Coca Cola) route and the Machame (Whiskey) route. However, with the growth of Tanzania’s tourism sector, the Kilimanjaro park authority introduced additional trails to Africa’s tallest peak. Lemosho, a relatively new path, is favored by esteemed operators for its scenic beauty, seclusion, and high success rate. It significantly enhances the likelihood of climbers reaching the summit and enjoying the journey. The Lemosho route can be completed in as few as 6 days (5 nights) on the mountain.
For optimal altitude acclimatization, an eight-day (seven-night) trek is recommended. The journey starts at Londorossi Gate, amidst a lush, fertile rainforest. The path leads to Shira Plateau, then follows the southern circuit halfway around the mountain, offering climbers spectacular views from every angle.
