Kilimanjaro National Park - In the morning, the operator will transport you to the entrance gate of Kilimanjaro National Park, which is about an hour’s drive away. The trek towards Shira Cathedral begins here. Along the way, you may encounter black and white colobus monkeys curiously observing as you pass by. After approximately 5 to 6 hours, you will arrive at Machame Camp, located 3,010 meters above the tree line, where you will enjoy an evening meal and overnight stay.
Machame Camp to Shira Hut Campsite
Kilimanjaro National Park - Following breakfast, you will leave the rainforest glades and continue on an ascending path, crossing a small valley and walking along a steep rocky ridge covered with heather until the ridge ends. The route then turns west into a river gorge at 3,658 meters (5-7 hours). You will spend the night at Shira Hut Campsite (3,845 meters).
Shira Hut Campsite to Lava Tower - Barranco Camp
Kilimanjaro National Park - On this new day, your trek begins with an ascent above the Shira Plateau towards the Lava Tower (4,640 meters). The surrounding vegetation becomes more sparse as the landscape transitions to an alpine desert. The route extends through the sweeping Barranco Valley, featuring lobelia and giant senecio plants, and in approximately 6 to 7 hours, you will reach Barranco Camp, the most picturesque camp on the mountain.
Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
Kilimanjaro National Park - Today, you will climb the “Barranco Wall,” requiring a steady hold. Fortunately, assistance is always nearby, and your guides will help whenever necessary. After leaving Barranco, you will ascend the Barranco Wall, enjoying wonderful views from the top. Then, descend through the Karanga Valley, where you will pause for lunch before embarking on another 2 to 3-hour climb to Barafu Camp (4,640 meters). At the camp, you will enjoy a well-deserved rest, an evening meal, and an early night.
Barafu Camp to Uhuru Camp - Mweka Camp
Kilimanjaro National Park - Around midnight, after enjoying hot tea and light snacks, you will begin your climb to Uhuru Peak. Ascending in the dark with only a headlamp to guide you, you will climb the screes of Kibo, reaching Stella Point in about 5 to 7 hours. Walking along the crater ridge, you will finally reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters). On the “Roof of Africa,” you will enjoy a 360° view of the surrounding landscape before starting your descent along the same route. From the summit, descend back to Barafu, where you will have a warm meal and relax. Then continue to Mweka Hut Campsite (3,080 meters). The journey will take 5 hours. At Mweka Camp, you will have your evening meal and sleep with the sights of Mount Kilimanjaro still fresh in your mind.
Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate - Arusha
Kilimanjaro National Park - On the final day of the journey, you will gently descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. After descending, the entire group will gather to congratulate you, and you will have the opportunity to share your thoughts on the hike in the guest book. A certificate will be provided. The driver will then pick you up and drive you back to your hotel.
