Momella Gate (1,500 m) – Miriakamba Hut (2,500 m)

Mount Meru - The journey from Arusha to Momella Gate is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes by car. Upon arrival at the gate, all necessary procedures will be completed before embarking on the trek. This trek offers stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the famous Momella lakes. Trekkers may encounter wildlife such as Bushbucks, Cape Buffaloes, Giraffes, and Warthogs. The trek continues for a short distance until reaching the Miriakamba Hut.

Miriakamba Hut (2,500 m) – Saddle Hut (3,550 m)

Mount Meru - Today’s trek follows a steep path along the ridge of the saddle. Along the way, trekkers can enjoy the breathtaking views of the Meru crater, the ash cone, and Little Meru. There is a possibility of encountering wildlife such as Cape Buffaloes and the black and white Colobus monkey. The trek concludes at Saddle Hut. After settling in, a short trek to Little Meru (3810m) is undertaken for acclimatization, followed by a return to Saddle Hut.

Saddle Hut (3,550 m) – Socialist Peak (4,562 m) – Miriakamba Hut (2,500 m)

Mount Meru - The day begins just after midnight with a light meal to maintain energy levels. Following the meal, the final ascent to Socialist Peak commences. This steep ascent involves navigating gravel and rocky cliffs and is the most mentally and physically demanding part of the trek. Upon reaching the summit, trekkers are rewarded with spectacular views of the Meru Crater and the Ash cone. There is a chance to spot wildlife such as mountain Reedbucks and Klipspringers along the rocky ridge.

From the summit, the descent continues directly down to the Miriakamba Hut.

Miriakamba Hut (2,500 m) – Momella Gate (1,500 m) – Arusha

Mount Meru - After breakfast, the descent to Momella Gate continues, taking a different southern route, which alters the distance trekked for the day. The route passes through the remarkable Fig Tree Arch.

A Rioba Safaris vehicle will be ready at Momella Gate to transport trekkers back to their hotel in Arusha, a journey of about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
