Begin your journey with a pick-up from your hotel in Arusha and travel 120km (approximately 2 hours) on a paved road to Tarangire National Park. This park is a sanctuary for dry-country antelope, including the rare fringe-eared oryx and the unique, long-necked gerenuk. The southern swampy regions of the park provide excellent wildlife viewing opportunities, featuring wallowing elephants and buffalo, the Silale Swamp lion pride, and occasionally wild dogs. Large pythons may also be spotted in trees as the swamps dry up. Enjoy lunch at a picnic site and continue with game drives until check-out time. Afterward, proceed to the camp for an overnight stay.

Lake Eyasi (Bushmen & Blacksmiths Experience)

Depart early in the morning to the villages for an authentic hunting and gathering experience with the Hadzabe (hunter-gatherer Bushmen) and Datoga (blacksmiths) tribes. The Bushmen depend on their foraging skills for survival, and you will need to be observant and sometimes very quiet as they showcase their animal tracking abilities and the use of locally made poisons to incapacitate their prey. Later, visit their homes to learn about their lifestyle, medicinal plants, and more. Dinner and overnight at the camp.

Ngorongoro Crater

After an early breakfast, travel to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend into the Ngorongoro Crater. This crater, with a diameter of 19.2km, a depth of 610m, and covering 304 sq km, is one of the most densely populated wildlife areas globally and is home to some of Tanzania’s last black rhinos. Its large predator population is another major attraction to this stunning crater. Supported by a constant water supply and fodder, this magnificent oasis allows both predator and prey to thrive among the grasslands. After game drives, head to the camp for an overnight stay.

Lake Manyara National Park - Lake Natron Area

Following breakfast, drive to Lake Manyara National Park. The park features a vast but shallow soda lake at the base of the Great Rift Valley’s western escarpment. The diverse habitat attracts a wide range of animals, including one of Africa’s largest elephant populations, Manyara’s distinctive tree-climbing lions, and large flocks of flamingos. Manyara is a picturesque gem, with a setting praised by Ernest Hemingway as “the loveliest I had seen in Africa.” From the entrance gate, blue monkeys dart between ancient mahogany trees, delicate bushbucks move cautiously through the shadows, and oversized forest hornbills honk loudly in the high canopy. After game drives, travel to Lake Natron for an overnight stay.

Embark on a rough, dusty yet scenic drive along the rift valley floor to the remote Maasai land, seldom visited by many. Enjoy a morning walk along the Lake Natron Area, spending a few hours exploring the shoreline and photographing the thousands of flamingos and other birds that frequent this soda lake. Later, visit the Engaresero waterfall by hiking through the steep gorges leading to this stunning waterfall, where a plunge pool offers a chance to swim. After a day of exploring this remote area, begin the journey back to your hotel in Arusha.
