Next, we visit a salty lake, offering a fantastic opportunity to capture beautiful photos. The lake is en route to David Gareji Lavra, and the scenery is perfect for taking memorable pictures. We will spend a total of 30 minutes at the shop and the lake.
- Udabno - After visiting the lake, the journey continues through Udabno Village, which translates to “desert.” This area is Georgia’s only semi-desert, showcasing the incredible diversity of Georgian nature.
- David Gareji Monastery - The tour proceeds with a walk towards the renowned Rainbow Mountains. The landscape’s most striking feature is the mineral-rich sedimentary rock, appearing as if painted with vibrant stripes. Hiking through the Rainbow Mountains is possible, and visitors are captivated by their colors. We will explore the Rainbow Mountains, take numerous stunning photos, and prepare for the historical tour of David Gareji Lavra. The David Gareji Monastery Complex is one of the country’s most spiritual sites. You will hear stories about the monastery, engage in some hiking, and see a Georgian soldier at the Georgia-Azerbaijan border. It is believed that St. David chose this remote location for his Disciples to live a holy life, separate from society.
- Traveler’s Meeting Point - After visiting David Gareji Lavra, the tour concludes with a return to Tbilisi, finishing at 5 pm.

Beautiful scenery - Don’t miss this half‑day tour if you’re in Tbilisi—the mountains are truly stunning, and photos really don’t do them justice. Our guide, Tota, was the friendliest guy ever and made the whole day superb, sharing lots of really interesting facts along the way. Just one tip: bring proper hiking shoes, as this is very much a hiking trip.

Very good tour, highly recommend - Really enjoyed this tour! The rainbow mountains are beautiful and the lunch spot we stop at for a picnic has amazing views.

Trip to the rainbow mountains and David Gareji monastery - I took a wonderful day trip with Tota (Nikolas) as our tour guide. He is incredibly knowledgeable and thoughtful — he explained everything clearly and was always happy to go deeper into any topic when we asked questions (for example, inside the church and monastery).
We enjoyed a beautiful one-hour hike through the colorful Rainbow Mountains, followed by a lovely picnic inside a cave in the monastery area (at about 800 meters elevation). The whole experience was peaceful and memorable.
Just a small practical tip: If you’re visiting in spring and have pollen allergies, be sure to bring some nasal spray or allergy medication for the hike — the semi-desert area can be quite flowery!

Rainbow mountain - Superb trip! Beautiful landscapes and an interesting visit. The tour is shorter than usual, but it’s great if you want something more relaxing and to have time to do other things in the afternoon.

Family friendly trip - We had a lovely duo guide + driver (Kati and Misha) for a guided tour to David Gareji, salted lake and wine tasting for a half a day planned trip today. Everything was clearly explained, tour was family friendly and informative. Thank you!

Exciting and fun tour - We had a very fun and interesting tour. The guide Soso was totally relaxed and well-read. We learned a lot about the history of Georgia and had a great day. Suran has brought us safely and rapidly back and forth. Highly recommended!
