- Jinvali Water Reservoir - The journey begins at the Zhinvali (Jinvali) water reservoir, also referred to as a lake, situated on the Georgian Military Highway. Constructed by the Soviets in the 1980s, this dam offers breathtaking views and stunning colors throughout the year.
- Ananuri Fortified Castle Ensemble - The next stop is Ananuri, the castle and seat of the Eristavis (Dukes) of Aragvi, a feudal dynasty that governed the region from the 13th century. Visitors can admire the two fortifications connected by a crenelated curtain wall and the well-preserved, large square tower known as the “Sheupovari.” The castle has witnessed numerous battles, and our guide will share fascinating stories about this fortress.
- Gudauri - Gudauri ski resort is located on the south-facing plateau of the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range in Georgia. Situated in the Stepantsminda district along the Georgian Military Highway near the Jvari Pass, the resort is at an elevation of 2,200 meters above sea level.
- Russian Georgian Friendship Monument - The next stop is the “Russia–Georgia Friendship Monument” or “Treaty of Georgievsk Monument,” built in 1983 to commemorate the bicentennial of the Treaty of Georgievsk and the enduring friendship between Soviet Georgia and Soviet Russia. Located on the Georgian Military Highway between the ski resort town of Gudauri and the Jvari pass, the monument is a large round stone and concrete structure overlooking the Devil’s Valley in the Caucasus mountains. Inside, a large tile mural spans the entire circumference of the structure, depicting scenes from Georgian and Russian history. (For the true history of this “friendship,” listen to our guide’s stories :) )
- Stepantsminda - Stepantsminda is named after a Georgian Orthodox monk named Stephan, who established a hermitage at this location on what later became the Georgian Military Road. The town is located along the banks of the Terek River, 157 kilometers north of Tbilisi, at an elevation of 1,740 meters above sea level. Here, visitors can take a short break after a long journey and rest before visiting Gergeti Trinity Church :)
- Gergeti Trinity Church - Next, local 4x4 cars will take visitors to Gergeti Trinity Church, situated on the right bank of the river Chkheri (the left tributary of the river Terek), at an elevation of 2,170 meters (7,120 feet), beneath Mount Kazbek. Visitors can enjoy a spectacular view of Mount Kazbek (Kazbegi), Kuro Mountain, and Stepantsminda.
- Gveleti Waterfall - The next destination is Gveleti Small Waterfall, located in the Kazbegi region near the small village of Gveleti. Local 4x4 cars will transport visitors to the nearest checkpoint, from where a short 10-minute hike leads to this beautiful spot.
