- Jinvali Water Reservoir - The Zhinvali (Jinvali) water reservoir, also referred to as a lake, is situated along the Georgian Military Highway. The dam was constructed by the Soviets in the 1980s to meet the growing water supply needs of Tbilisi. The government identified the Aragvi Gorge, abundant with glacier water, as the ideal location. Historically, the city of Zhinvali (Jinvali) was a hub for major trade routes and a center for the Georgian elite, rich with fortresses, towers, and palaces. Although many of these structures have fallen into ruins over the centuries, the area holds significant archaeological potential.
Despite protests, the Soviet Government proceeded to flood the area, submerging centuries of history under 75 meters of water. During winter, as water levels recede, remnants of old Zhinvali, including a church that once overlooked the city, emerge from beneath the water.

Ananuri - Ananuri Fortress is a 17th-century architectural ensemble that was once among the strongest fortresses in Georgia. Located 70 km from Tbilisi in the village of Ananuri, the fortress was attacked in 1739 by forces from a rival duchy led by Shanshe of Ksani and was set ablaze. The Aragvi clan was massacred, but four years later, local peasants revolted against Shanshe’s rule, killed the usurpers, and invited King Teimuraz II to govern them directly. In 1746, King Teimuraz, with the assistance of King Erekle II of Kakheti, suppressed another peasant uprising. The fortress remained in use until the early 19th century and has been on the tentative list for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage Site program since 2007.

Gudauri is situated on the south-facing plateau of the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range in Georgia, in the Stepantsminda District, along the Georgian Military Highway near the Jvari Pass, at an elevation of 2,200 meters (7,200 ft.) above sea level, with skiable areas enjoying maximum sun exposure. Gudauri is located 120 km north of Tbilisi and is a two-hour drive from Tbilisi International Airport or a short helicopter flight from the capital.

Russian Georgian Friendship Monument - The Russia–Georgia Friendship Monument, also known as the Treaty of Georgievsk Monument, was built in 1983 to commemorate the bicentennial of the Treaty of Georgievsk and the enduring friendship between Soviet Georgia and Soviet Russia. Situated on the Georgian Military Highway between the ski resort town of Gudauri and the Jvari Pass, the monument is a large round stone and concrete structure overlooking the Devil’s Valley in the Caucasus mountains. Inside, a large tile mural spans the entire circumference of the structure, depicting scenes from Georgian and Russian history.

Gergeti Trinity Church - The journey continues to Stepantsminda, also known as Kazbegi, where visitors switch to a 4WD off-road vehicle (at an additional cost of 20 GEL per person) to ascend to the breathtaking Gergeti Monastery beneath the 5,047-meter Mount Kazbegi. The ancient church, dating back to the 14th century, stands at an elevation of 2,170 meters, overlooking the small town of Stepantsminda, also referred to as Kazbegi, in the north of the country. Beyond its religious significance, the medieval church served as a refuge. During various invasions in Georgia’s history, national treasures were hidden there, as it was difficult for enemies to access. The 18th-century Georgian author Vakhushti Batonishvili noted that in times of danger, precious relics from Mtskheta, including Saint Nino’s Cross, were brought here for safekeeping. During the Soviet era, religious services were prohibited, but the church remained a popular tourist attraction.
