- Metekhi Cathedral - The Virgin Mary Metekhi Church is situated on the left bank of the Mtkvari River, atop a cliff plateau. The original church was likely built by Vakhtang Gorgasali, symbolically mirroring the church on Virgin Mary’s tomb in Gethsemane Garden, Jerusalem. Legend has it that Catholicos Kirion moved Saint Shushanik to this church in the 7th century.
- Monument of King Vakhtang Gorgasali - Vakhtang I Gorgasali, from the Chosroid dynasty, was a king of Iberia, known locally as Kartli, during the late 5th and early 6th centuries. Dating his reign is challenging. Allied with the Byzantine Empire, he led a prolonged struggle against Sasanian Iranian dominance, which ended in his defeat and the weakening of Iberia. Tradition credits him with reorganizing the Georgian Orthodox Church and founding Tbilisi, Georgia’s modern capital. Ivane Javakhishvili dates his reign to c. 449–502, while Cyril Toumanoff suggests 447–522.
- Europe Square - Crossing Europe Square provides insights into the relationship between Georgia and the European Union, which is crucial for Georgians.
- Rike Park - Rike Park is the newest recreational area in Tbilisi, located on the left bank of the Kura (Mtkvari) River. It has quickly become a favorite spot for both locals and tourists, especially families, during the summer. The park is easy to find, with its main entrance at the beautiful pedestrian ‘Bridge of Peace.’ It offers various entertainment options like singing and dancing fountains, artificial climbing walls, a children’s maze, mega-chess boards, footpaths, and quiet corners. The starting point of a new cable car to Narikala Fortress is in Rike Park, along with several stylish bars and restaurants.
- Tbilisi Cable Car - The cable car is used to reach the Mother of Georgia statue, offering stunning views.
- Kartlis Deda - Kartvlis Deda (Mother of a Georgian), often mistakenly called Kartlis Deda, is a monument in Tbilisi, Georgia’s capital, and a symbol of the city. The statue was erected on Sololaki Hill in 1958, marking Tbilisi’s 1500th anniversary. Designed by renowned Georgian sculptor Elguja Amashukeli, the twenty-meter aluminum figure of a woman in Georgian national dress represents the Georgian national character: a bowl of wine in her left hand to welcome friends, and a sword in her right hand for foes.
- The Bridge of Peace - The Bridge of Peace is a must-see attraction in Tbilisi. This pedestrian glass and steel bridge, with its bow-shaped design, spans the Mtkvari (Kura) River in the Georgian capital. Officially opened in May 2010, the bridge was imported from Italy in 200 unassembled parts. It is 156 meters long and features over 10,000 LED bulbs that illuminate daily 90 minutes before sunset.
- საქართველოს საპატრიარქო გრემის სასულიერო სემინარია - A stop at the Patriarchate of Georgia reveals fascinating facts about the location.
- Anchiskhati Basilica - Located in the historical district of upper Kala on Shavteli Street, the Anchiskhati Basilica dates back to the 6th century. Historical sources attribute its construction to Dachi Ujarmeli (from Ujarma). Initially named after the Virgin Mary’s Birth, it was later renamed Anchiskhati. In 1675, Peter Meskhi moved the image of Christ not made by hand from the Anchi Church to this one, and was appointed pastor by Catholicon Domenici. From then on, the Meskhishvilis served as pastors, with Peter’s son Alex founding the calligraphers’ dynasty known as the Aleximaskhishvilis.
- Rezo Gabriadze Marionette Theater - In 2010, Rezo Gabriadze constructed a unique clock tower next to the marionette theatre in Tbilisi’s old town. Every hour, an angel emerges with a small hammer to ring the bell. Inside the tower is a small puppet theatre, where the show “The Circle of Life” is performed twice daily at 12:00 and 19:00. Rezo adorned the tower with hundreds of self-designed tiles, making it an iconic architectural feature of Tbilisi. It is often referred to as the Tower with a Clock or the Tower with the Angel.
- Sioni Cathedral Church - Sioni Cathedral is situated on Sioni Street, in one of Tbilisi’s oldest districts, upper Kala. Legend states that the first church on this site was built by King Vakhtang Gorgasali in the 5th century.
- Tone Bakery - Enjoy traditional Georgian pie and lemonade.
- Tamada (Toastmaster) Statue - Tamada means toastmaster in Georgian. Visitors stop to hear captivating stories about the toastmastering tradition.
- Shardeni Street - Shardeni Street is one of Tbilisi’s most popular and picturesque streets. This pedestrian street is so renowned that no visitor leaves Georgia without experiencing Shardeni Street.
- Abanotubani - “Abanotubani” refers to the district in Tbilisi’s Old Town, featuring a street (Abanos Kucha) lined with public bathhouses utilizing the sulfurous waters from the area’s numerous hot springs.
- Leghvtakhevi Waterfall - Leghvtakhevi is a waterfall visited during the tour, a favored spot for both Georgians and tourists to relax in the heat.

A wander across Tbilisi’ history and quirks - Our tour guide, Gio, was incredibly dedicated to showing us every detail of his beloved city. This tour is a veritable time travel through the very complex and very telling history of Tbilisi and by extension Georgia. We found the pacing to be just right, stops are evenly spaced out and there’s lots of both quirky and awe-inspiring photo opps. Highly recommended.

Very good Walking tour. Highly recommend! - I did the Tbilisi Walking Tour Including Cable Car and Traditional Bakery. This tour operates rain or shine — you cannot control the weather. Unfortunately, on the day I was due to do the tour, the heavens opened, but we still had a lovely time and covered all the stops on the itinerary, including the cable car. After making my booking with Viator, I was immediately contacted by the tour operator to confirm my booking. The itinerary was exactly as advertised and covered a lot. Wear good footwear and be prepared to walk. Dress appropriately. The guide was very good, and I learnt a lot. Everything was communicated well, including the meeting location, times, and the itinerary. The tour was not rushed, and you had enough time at each location. Would highly recommend.
