Ouarzazate - Travel through Ouarzazate and continue south over the Tizi-n-Tinfifte pass to Agdez.
Agdz - As you descend from the pass, you’ll be captivated by the vast oasis and numerous palm trees, marking the start of the Dra’a Valley with its thousands of date palms, producing an impressive 44 varieties of dates. The date harvest begins in September and lasts a couple of months, making it the ideal time to visit Agdez for the freshest dates. Overnight stay in a guest house.
Agdez – Zagora – Mhamid El Ghazlan – Chegaga Dunes
Agdz - After breakfast, explore Kasbah Tamnougalte, the oldest kasbah in the Dra’a Valley. While some parts are still inhabited, the Jewish area has been deteriorating since its residents moved to Israel, with the last woman leaving in 1963.
Zagora - Zagora, the largest town in the region, is where we will stop for lunch. Later, pass through Tamgroute, known for its potteries with the famous green glaze, which you might have seen in Marrakech. You can also visit the ancient Quranic library with beautiful hand-written Arabic texts.
Tamegroute - Stop at Tamegroute for the renowned green-glazed potteries, possibly familiar from Marrakech. Visit the ancient Quranic library with exquisite hand-written Arabic texts.
M’Hamid - In the afternoon, continue south to M’hamid, the gateway to the desert and the end of the paved road. Enjoy lunch in the Erg Lihoudi dunes or alternatively at Ksar Bounou.
Erg Chigaga - Experience the Erg Chegaga dunes (300m) with 60km of off-road driving. This journey showcases various desert landscapes: ‘erg’ (dunes), ‘hammada’ (stony desert), and oases. These remote dunes offer a true desert experience with overwhelming silence and vast sand expanses. Enjoy a camel ride lasting about an hour and a half.
Erg Chegaga Dunes – Taznakht – High Atlas – Marrakech
Erg Chigaga - After breakfast, embark on the final day of the desert tour.
National Park D’Iriqui - Travel west through another 90km of desert with diverse scenery: Lake Iriqui, where you might witness a wide mirage in the heat, along with mountains and fossils.
Foum Zguid - Lunch is served in Foum Zguid, the first village after the desert. “Foum” means “mouth,” referring to the “mouth/source” of the Zguid River.
Shop Espace Taznakht - From Foum Zguid, drive north along paved roads, passing stunning rock formations to the small town of Taznakht, renowned for its Berber carpets and rugs.
High Atlas Mountains - Cross the High Atlas again to arrive in Marrakech by late afternoon, concluding the ultimate Saharan desert adventure in Morocco.
Marrakech - The tour concludes with your stay in Marrakech.
