Thermopylae is a historic location in Greece known for its narrow coastal passage in ancient times. The Battle of Thermopylae was fought here between a coalition of Greek city-states, led by King Leonidas of Sparta, and the Persian Empire under Xerxes.

The Gates of Fire: Named after the hot sulfur springs and, in Greek mythology, the cavernous entrances to Hades.

The monument of King Leonidas: This monument, erected in 1955 and crafted by sculptor Vasos Falireas, features a stunning brass sculpture of the Spartan King with his spear and shield.

Thermopylae museum: This innovative museum is dedicated to the 480 BC battle that significantly influenced Greek history and Western civilization.

Hotsprings: The baths of Thermopylae are a haven of healing spas. These high-end hydrotherapy facilities focus on balneotherapy, not only as a treatment for specific ailments, illnesses, and injuries but also to promote overall well-being. Of the 60 pending springs, 34 have been officially recognized so far.

Our next destination is the awe-inspiring Meteora! Known as one of the most stunning regions of mainland Greece, Meteora’s hanging monasteries are among the country’s most distinctive attractions.

These monasteries are perched atop sandstone towers, which for centuries served as completely inaccessible retreats for monks. Built on these rock towers, they offer breathtaking views over the plains.

The Meteora Monasteries themselves, in addition to offering incredible vistas, are filled with religious treasures, wall paintings, icons, and libraries rich with ancient manuscripts. Every day, countless visitors from all over the world come here to meditate and pray. The captivating landscape was featured in the James Bond film “For Your Eyes Only” (Holy Trinity Monastery).
