- Vlatadon Monastery - A visit to Moni Vlatadon (Vlatadon Monastery) is a highlight of a full-day tour of Thessaloniki. Nestled in the serene Upper Town, this 14th-century Byzantine monastery is perched on a hillside within the old city walls and is believed to be the exact location where Saint Paul preached to the Thessalonians in 51 AD. A simple stone inside the small church is traditionally thought to be where the apostle stood. After a short drive from the city center, visitors are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views over the rooftops, the Thermaic Gulf, and, on clear days, all the way to Mount Olympus. The main church, dedicated to the Transfiguration, is adorned with beautifully preserved frescoes, and the entire site exudes a sense of tranquility as it remains an active monastery under the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Modest attire is required (shoulders and knees covered).
- Church of Saint Dimitrios - Patron of Thessaloniki - Explore the Church of Saint Demetrius, one of Thessaloniki’s oldest and most significant Byzantine churches. Admire the frescoes and descend into the catacombs to uncover a piece of the city’s history.
- The Greek Agora and Roman Forum - A stop at the Roman Forum (also known as the Ancient Agora) during a full-day tour of Thessaloniki offers a captivating glimpse into the city’s Roman past. Situated in the heart of the modern center, at the intersection of Olympou and Filippou streets, this expansive open-air archaeological site was once the vibrant commercial, political, and social center of Roman Thessaloniki, with its main structures built in the 2nd century AD.
- Rotunda - This unique structure is the only circular Christian church in the world, featuring stunning mosaics and a fascinating history as it transitioned from a Roman temple to a Christian church, then a mosque, and back to a church. On Tuesdays, the museum is closed, so only the exterior can be viewed.
- Arch of Galerius - Admire the remnants of the renowned Galerius Arch, through which the ancient Via Egnatia, the ‘highway’ connecting Rome with Constantinople, once passed.
- White Tower of Thessaloniki - Enter Thessaloniki’s most iconic landmark, which houses a museum, and enjoy the spectacular view from the top.
- Monument of Alexander The Great - After viewing the statue of Philip II, take a moment to admire the eternal king of Macedonia, Alexander the Great, on his majestic horse Bucephalus at Thessaloniki’s most photographed location.
- Statue of Philip II of Macedon - Standing proudly on a pedestal across from the White Tower, the father of Alexander the Great appears to gaze with pride at his son’s incredible achievements.

This tour is a gem! - Being a local I had never been on a guided tour before. However, I knew that I hadn't visited some important sites of my city and as for the ones that I had, I just had a rather vague idea of their history as I had visited them when I was a schoolchild. This was the reason why I decided to look for a guided tour and I have to say that the whole experience exceeded my expectations!
Giannis made sure that by the end of the tour I had formed a thorough understanding of the history of the city and instead of just providing me with information about each sight he actually helped me realize how some sights are even interrelated and interconnected in the continuum of the history of Thessaloniki.
I absolutely loved the tour. Giannis is really good at capturing your attention and keeping it throughout the tour and, being a teacher, I have to say that this is a really difficult thing!
I would wholeheartedly recommend this tour both to locals who want to become more familiar with their city's history and of course to tourists and travelers who want to go off the beaten track and seek for meaningful experiences.
