The site was consecrated to tame the Tiger demon and was first built in 1692 at a cave where Guru Rimpoche meditated in the 7th century A.D. for 3 years, 3 months, 3 days, and 3 hours to subdue evil demons. The cave has been considered sacred ever since, attracting many famous saints for meditation.
To reach the temple, a trek of approximately 2-3 hours through beautiful, shady pine forests adorned with moss and prayer flags is required. Often, clouds envelop the monastery, creating an ethereal sense of seclusion. A visit to this remarkable heritage site is a must for any trip to Bhutan.
