Tirana (Albania) – Ohrid (N. Macedonia) - Skopje
Ohrid - The tour leader will pick up guests from their hotel in Tirana to embark on a journey to North Macedonia. Ohrid is one of the most captivating destinations in North Macedonia, recognized as one of Europe’s oldest human settlements. Since 1980, Ohrid city and Ohrid Lake have been part of the UNESCO World Heritage. The Illyrian Tribe of Enkeleys once inhabited the area around Ohrid Lake, which the Romans named “Lyhnidas” (the Light Lake). The tour proceeds to the city of Ohrid, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a significant center of Orthodoxy. Visitors will explore the renowned viewpoint of the Church of St. John, the Church of St. Nicolas, and the Halveti Hayati Tekke mosque. During the Ottoman Empire, the city expanded on the hills and areas surrounding the lake. Today, Ohrid is celebrated for its architecture, churches, the castle atop the city, the amphitheater, the stunning lake views surrounded by mountains, and the pearls from the lake.
Skopje - Following the Ohrid city tour, the journey continues to Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia. The city showcases European, Ottoman, and even Asian influences. The Stone Bridge connects the new and old parts of the city. A must-see in Skopje is the Alexander the Great Statue in the center. The Art Bridge, leading to the Archaeological Museum, is notable for its ornate street lanterns and statues of Macedonian artists and musicians. Visitors will explore the Old Bazaar of Skopje, the largest in the Balkans, blending modern living with centuries of history. The cross atop the mountain, visible from kilometers away, has become a symbol of the city.
Skopje – Pristina (Kosovo) – Prizren - Tirana
Pristina - The tour will cross the border into Kosovo, with the first stop being Pristina, the capital. The Newborn monument, symbolizing independence and the country’s youthful spirit, will be visited. Guests will stroll along the main boulevard in the capital. Sheshi Nena Tereza is a pleasant street for a walk and enjoying coffee at one of the bars. The tour will also pass Skanderberg Square, featuring the statue of Skanderberg, the national Albanian hero.
Prizren - Prizren has been significant in the region as an Illyrian settlement and a crossroads for the Byzantine and Ottoman empires, contributing to its unique architecture. The river flows through the old town’s heart, under numerous bridges. For a vibrant international experience, visit Prizren in August during Dokufest, a renowned short film festival. The best way to explore is by wandering the streets, passing elegant medieval houses. Prizren takes pride in its filigree artisanal techniques for precious metals. If choosing one mosque to visit, the Sinan Pasha Mosque, rich in arabesque color and pattern, is recommended. The fortress on the hill offers a panoramic view of this remarkable town.
Tirana - After the city tour, the journey concludes with a drive back to Tirana, marking the end of this incredible historical and cultural experience.
