Hase-dera Temple - Known since ancient times as “Hase Kannon,” its official name is “Kaikozan Jishoin Hasedera Temple.” It is believed to have been established in the 8th year of Tenpyo (736) during the Nara period and is one of the oldest temples in Kamakura, designated as an imperial shrine during Emperor Shomu’s reign. The principal image is a statue of the Eleven-faced Kanzeon Bodhisattva, one of the largest wooden carved Buddha statues in Japan (height 9.18m). It is counted as the fourth of the 33 Kannon sacred sites in Bando, with its lanterns preserved as a symbol of the Kannon sacred sites representing Togoku.
