- Piran - Piran is among the oldest and most stunning towns in Slovenia, rich in history and culture. The town’s unique charm is largely due to nearly 500 years of Venetian influence. Its cultural heritage extends beyond museums, with architectural and artistic treasures enhancing the daily life of locals at every turn. Giuseppe Tartini, the renowned composer and violinist, was born and raised in Piran, leaving a significant mark on the town. His bronze statue graces the main square, alongside Tartini’s house, where visitors can view one of his violins. The Tartini Square is encircled by impressive buildings, including the ornately decorated Municipal Palace, Tartini Theatre, Maritime Museum, Aquarium, Marine Biological Station, Baroque House, and Apollonio Palace. Overlooking the town is the Church of Saint George, the largest and most significant church, offering a breathtaking view. Piran’s town wall, narrow streets, fishermen’s nets, compact houses ascending the slope, and the stunning sea create the sensation of walking through a painting. This scenic tour along the Slovene coast also includes visits to the coastal towns of Portorož, Izola, and Koper, where a guide will share insights on the main attractions, historical facts, and local traditions.
- Portorož - Experience a scenic drive through Portorož, meaning ‘Port of Roses’, a favored tourist spot known for its hotels, casinos, and beautiful beaches. Nearby, the Sečovlje salt pans demonstrate traditional salt extraction from pure seawater.
- Izola - Continue with a scenic drive through Izola, a charming coastal town celebrated for its rich fishing heritage.
- Koper - Finish with a scenic drive through Koper, the largest city on the Slovenian coast and a significant European port.

Piran, a Short Day Trip from Trieste - We decided to drive to Piran, one of the beach towns along the south western coast of Slovenia about 30-40 mins from Trieste in Northern Italy. Piran looked the most attractive to us of the coastal towns (others being Izola and Koper) and thankfully we were not upset about our decision. We found parking just outside of town on a hill (about 15 mins walk from the marina and the central square). We explored around the back streets behind the square towards the beach at the southern end of town.
There were so many people on the stony beaches. There was a small chapel also on the beach called the Church of the Madonna della Salute.
We climbed up to another church on the hill, this time named the Church of St. George with a grassy courtyard and a view over the town and the beach below. From the church’s vantage point, we could see all the way over to Trieste and its lighthouse on the coast.
From here, we walked up to the Fortress walls. At the end of the 13th century when Piran came under Venetian rule, the town started to grow. It was then surrounded by a new wall which dates back to 1470-1533. (We read this from the plaque outside the walls of the fortress).
We paid 3 Euros each to get into the fort and climb up to the battlements. We continued along the battle keep to the end. We could not only look over the whole town but also down onto the stony beach and the clear blue and turquoise ocean beyond. Just an amazing view!
Back down into town, we stopped for an ice-cream on the square under a canvas cover. It was the perfect coolant on a very hot but fun day. I would encourage anyone to visit Piran if you have 2-3 hours to spare.

Lovely walk round Piran and Portoroz - A lovely walk round the "Orange Walk" There are 3, Orange, blue and green.
The orange takes you round piran, the old town and back towards the promenade. You can take in the sights of the lighthouse, churches and the old town walls.
Before we left, we did wondered where to park, as had read lots of reviews of various places. We parked in Portoroz, at a place called "Vila Marija" which is on Precna pot, and its 1.2 euros per hour. Decent place to park, but CASH ONLY.
We found some free WC's next to the Mercator supermarket off Obala. Thou they charge you 1 euro, but are very clean.
The walk is flat in places, but also quite hilly at times to. It says its a 2.5 hour walk, but i guess thats if you dont stop to take pictures. Lots of places to eat and drink.

Excellent tour!!! - It was a great tour. Accommodations were good as well. Visiting Koper and most of the time in Piran. Site seeing and opportunities to take pictures. In Piran there is plenty of free time after walking around with the tour guide explaining all about the city. Our tour guide was Ernest (Ernie) and he was awesome. Very friendly and explained in detail and answered all our questions. Very kind as well taking in consideration most of the group were elderly. Excellent tour and thanks to Ernest, and will definitely recommend to friends and anyone.

Lovely Piran and Porterose - Dejan met us across the street from the cruise port in Trieste. He was driving a nice van that could transport 7 guests, although there were only 4 of us. We left town to head into Slovenia. It was a nice ride with some beautiful views. Dejan filled us in on some of the history and politics of the area. We thought Portorose was charming and a welcome relief from the crowds on other excursions. We did climb up and down some steep steps and navigated a few narrow and steep alleys. It was picturesque and the promenade was gorgeous.
