This area is home to 157 bird species, including the Scarlet ibis, flamingos, Sandpiper, Eurasian whimbrel, Tricoloured munia, Northern waterthrush, Black-crested antshrike, Speckled tanager, Dusky-capped flycatcher, Cocoa thrush, Roseate tern, short-billed dowitcher, Bananaquit, and Great Egret, among others. Additionally, visitors may encounter caimans, snakes, opossums, raccoons, and a variety of fish and insects. Designated as a protected wildlife area in 1953, the region still faces challenges from poaching and industrial waste pollution. Despite these issues, the swamp remains a captivating and tranquil destination, well worth exploring. Please note that while many animals may be observed, sightings are not guaranteed.
