Goreme Panorama - The breathtaking landscape surrounding Göreme is shaped by solidified lava streams, ash, and tuff stone, all dating back to the Neocene period. It features deep valleys carved by significant erosion, creating a truly lunar-like landscape. This area is renowned for its extensive geological formations, with Cappadocia’s unique morphological structures resulting from thousands of years of continuous erosion, forming unusual pyramids and cones.

Cappadocia - Situated in south-central Turkey, the moonscape region of Cappadocia, southeast of Ankara, is renowned for its distinctive geological features known as fairy chimneys. These large, cone-shaped formations were formed over time by the erosion of the relatively soft volcanic ash surrounding them. Historical cultures have excavated these formations to create dwellings, castles (such as Uchisar), and even entire underground cities like Kaymakli and Derinkuyu, which served as refuges for early Christians. The nearby city of Kayseri serves as the gateway to this area.
-
Goreme Open-Air Museum - The Goreme Open-Air Museum resembles an expansive monastic complex with numerous refectory monasteries placed side-by-side, each featuring its own remarkable church. It is undoubtedly the first attraction to visit in Cappadocia, located centrally in the region with easy access from all directions.
-
Ozkonak Underground City - This underground city, built beneath the hill known as the Citadel, was opened to visitors in 1964. The residents of Ozkonak (Enegup in Greek) village constructed their homes around nearly one hundred tunnels of the underground city. The locals still utilize the most convenient areas in the tunnels as cellars, storage spaces, and stables, accessible through their courtyards. The Ozkonak Underground City features low, narrow, and sloping passages. While the city consists of 8 floors below ground, only 4 are currently open to the public, with spaces organized around ventilation shafts.
-
Pasabag - Pasabag in Cappadocia is located on the road to Zelve, coming from Goreme or Avanos. Here, visitors can see highly remarkable earth pillars in the middle of a vineyard, hence the name “the Pacha’s vineyard.” “Pacha” means “General,” a military rank in Turkish, and is a common nickname. This site is also known as Monks Valley, named after some cones carved in tuff stones that stand apart. Presently, there is a vineyard and several tuff cones situated right next to the road.
-
Avanos - Avanos is a town in the heart of Cappadocia, famous for its pottery-making tradition. Visitors can stop at one of the pottery workshops to watch a pottery demonstration and even try their hand at it.
