Best. Time. Ever. - Oli and Ryan at Northbound provided an experience far surpassing what I could have possibly imagined. It's been a few months and I certainly had not intended on taking this long to write this review, but after a stressful international move I have finally taken the time to reflect on our amazing trip. If you don't read anything else I write, feel confident in booking with Northbound and cross your fingers they still have availability, you will not regret it!   It's very clear that a passion for the aurora has guided a very thoughtful experience for everyone that joins them on an adventure to hunt the northern lights. Even before the evening of our booking, they prepared us for everything that we needed, recommending what to bring and guiding us on how to determine what size thermal suit to reserve with them. They also communicated with us in the lead up to our booking, the weather wasn't great in Tromso, and they suggested that we drive 2.5 hours to Finland for our best shot at seeing the lights. My husband was less than enthusiastic about a long drive in the back of a van, he gets both bored and a bit carsick. Well, neither were an issue with Oli and Ryan, they invested in a very comfortable van and it was incredibly smooth. The conversation was also great, we learned a lot we didn't know about the scientific aspects behind the aurora but they also easily engaged with my middle and elementary school-aged nephews.   When we arrived at a beautiful frozen lake in Finland, it was a clear night with a full moon, granting us incredible views of both mountains and probably every star in the sky. They served us hot chocolate, with almond milk to account for dietary restrictions, and served us hot dogs - delicious! Apparently, many tours offer stew, I personally cannot imagine sacrificing the warmth of my gloves to hold a spoon, hot dogs were the perfect option. It's worth noting that it's so soo cold that you will not want to remove any layers, especially gloves, to take photos, unless you're really brave and also prepared to warm up in their heated van, which you'll need to do intermittently regardless.   They took beautiful photos of our family, much higher resolution than we could have taken ourselves, including a time lapse, as well as pictures of scenery. They also provided a link with the photos and raw data via a link that they'll keep live for one year. We saw some aurora throughout the night but it seemed as if they wouldn't make a strong appearance for us. The guys were prepared and found ways to keep us engaged regardless and, even if the aurora hadn't started dancing for us, I absolutely would have considered it a wonderful experience. But eventually we did see the lights and it was amazing!! One of the most beautiful, peaceful phenomena I have ever seen. I will never forget how I felt at that moment.  Even after our tour ended, the guys kept in touch. They knew we were in Tromso for the week and kept us up-to-date on the aurora forecast so that we could try to find them on our own, closer to Tromso. I would absolutely not hesitate to book with them. P.S., Ryan and Ollie, I am so sorry it took me this long to write this and I hope we get to join you again in the future!

Best Northern Light Tour! - We hired Northbound for a private nothern lights tour in March. Oli and Ryan are amazing guides. Their knowledge, attention to detail, friendly demeanor, and desire to give you a perfect experience is unrivaled. Due to the cloud cover in Tromso, we traveled to a frozen lake in Finland to view the lights. During the drive they taught us about the northern lights and Tromso. Warm thermal suits were provided to keep us warm and they even brought dairy- free hot chocolate to help keep the kids warm. Unlike many other tour groups, pictures and timelapse video are included! In my opinion, Northbound is the the best tour company in Tromso.

Wonderful experience – 5-star service with a personal touch - We had an amazing time chasing the Northern Lights with this team. They offer a true 5-star service, yet it feels like you're spending the evening with friends. Oli and Ryan are not only incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the aurora, but also just great fun to be around. We also really appreciated how much they cared about our safety – everything was well organized and thoughtful. Even though the weather wasn’t perfect, we were lucky enough to see the lights shortly after arriving. They could have easily said that’s it – but instead, they told us the lights would eventuate and they truly did. It became even more spectacular later. On top of that, they even managed to convince my mum to take a photo – which means they can do pretty much anything. Thank you for a fantastic evening and unforgettable experience. Highly recommended to everyone.

Ollie and Ryan Made a Cloudy Night Unforgettable - Ollie and Ryan were fantastic guides. Even though the lights were weak and mostly hidden by clouds, they made the evening fun and memorable. We had campfire hot dogs and great chats with the group. They ended the night with some cool light painting photos. It was our most enjoyable night despite the low aurora activity.

10000/10 Would always do again - My friends and I went on 2 tours with Northbound and lemme tell you what a blast we had. Oli & Ryan are so nice and knowledgeable that I wouldn't want to go hunting with any other tour. They're actually attentive to the guests on the tour and help ensure that the guests get the photos that they want. We requested some funky poses (the totem pole and the "best catch of the day" photo) and they were nothing but enthusiastic about helping us achieve the photo! I also loved the fact that the tour was a smaller group as the vibes were more homey, but we also big enough that we had our own personal space. We originally had 3 tours w/ Northbound, our 1st was cancelled due to weather and the aurora predictions on our 3rd tour was looking bleak as well, but thank goodness we decided to go as we saw purple lights that night!! On the last night, they let us stay out longer as the lights started to boom as we were about to leave. Oli & Ryan truly do the most and their best in order to make your experience great and their business' success shows that! Best guides for your Northern Lights Adventure - Highly, highly recommend choosing Northbound for your Northern Lights adventure! Oli and Ryan were the best guides and both extremely knowledgeable about the weather patterns. Plus, they truly just love chasing the lights, and make the experience so seamless and fun. They provide insulated suits, hotdogs, a bonfire, and overall a great time while waiting for the lights. We had to drive 2.5 hours and crossed the Finnish border, but arrived at a picturesque lake which was an amazing location for the show. The clouds took a very long time to clear, and after about 3 hours of waiting and losing hope, the sky graced us with a beautiful show that was well worth the wait. Truly can't recommend these guys enough! Thanks Oli and Ryan!

Fantastic guides, great photography - highly recommend! - Oli and Ryan were fantastic guides! Very knowledgeable and passionate about Northern Lights and photography - exactly what I was looking for. Long time northern lights guides in Tromso, they established their own company in 2024 and wanted their tours to feel like a bunch of friends having a good time by a fire. That is exactly how it felt! They have a fantastic attitude and such good vibes, they genuinely want you to have a good time and aren't watching the clock but will stick around if there's light activity. I ended up going on their tour 2 consecutive nights as the 1st time the weather wasn't great (although we did get to see the lights). The 2nd time we got treated to a great light show shortly past midnight. The icing on the cake are the professional photos and time lapse video they provide the next day at no extra cost. Amazing night! - We had the most amazing experience with Northbound, I highly recommend them to anyone interested in a northern lights tour. Oli and Ryan are both passionate and knowledgeable about the area and the northern lights and it shines through in how they run their company. Weather conditions were not ideal the evening of our tour, but as it was our only opportunity to try an experience the lights Oli and Ryan worked diligently to give us the best experience possible. We were able to experience the magic of the lights and have the stellar photos to prove it! However what I found most impressive were Oli and Ryan's commitment to our safety and comfort during the tour. We traveled with our 2 sons and it was a lovely experience for us all. The campfire, sausages and the best hot chocolate just rounded out an adventure filled with laughs as we found the best viewing spots. I wouldn't hesitate to book with them again and will recommend them to anyone visiting Tromso!

We started in Tromsø, Norway, and ended up crossing into Finland in search of the best skies and it was absolutely worth it. Oli was determined to find the perfect spot, and thanks to his expertise, we witness an unforgettable display of the north lights. He also made sure we were warm, comfortable, and had everything we needed throughout the night.
