- Fukuokazeki Sakura Park - Nestled in Tsukubamirai City, Fukuokazeki Sakura Park is a picturesque park spanning approximately 2.7 hectares. It boasts a vast lawn, extensive playground equipment, and a water play area, making it a favorite among families.
In the springtime, the park is renowned for its breathtaking cherry blossoms, with about 450 cherry trees adorning a 1.8 km stretch along an irrigation canal, and a total of around 600 trees in the vicinity. During this season, the Fukuokazeki Sakura Festival takes place, showcasing local delicacies and a variety of events.
It’s an ideal spot to enjoy hanami (cherry blossom viewing) and unwind in nature!
- Mount Tsukuba - Mount Tsukuba (筑波山) is a celebrated mountain, reaching a height of 877 meters. It is distinguished by its twin peaks, Nyotai-san (877m) and Nantai-san (871m), which are often linked to male and female deities in Japanese mythology.
Unlike the symmetrical Mount Fuji, Mount Tsukuba is enveloped in rich greenery and transforms with the seasons, offering a stunning view throughout the year. The mountain is a favored hiking spot, with multiple trails leading to the summit, as well as a cable car and ropeway for easier access.
At the summit, visitors can relish breathtaking panoramic views, and on clear days, even catch a glimpse of Tokyo and Mount Fuji. The area also houses Tsukuba Shrine, a historic site that has been a place of worship for centuries.
- Tsuchiura - Kijo Park, situated in Tsuchiura City, is a historic site established on the grounds of the former Tsuchiura Castle. The park retains several features of the original castle, including the East and West Towers, main gates, and water moats.
A notable structure within the park is the yaguramon (turret gate), the only one remaining in the Kanto region, underscoring its historical importance.
In spring, Kijo Park becomes a sought-after location for cherry blossom viewing, with around 50 Somei Yoshino cherry trees blooming from late March to early April. The park hosts the Tsuchiura Cherry Blossom Festival during this time, featuring illuminated cherry blossoms and various events that draw numerous visitors.
- Ushiku Daibutsu - Ushiku Daibutsu (牛久大仏) is an impressive Buddha statue located in Ushiku, Japan. Standing at 120 meters (394 feet), it was once the tallest statue in the world and remains one of the tallest Buddha statues globally.
Completed in 1993, the statue depicts Amitabha Buddha and is crafted from bronze. Visitors can enter the statue, which contains multiple floors with exhibits on Buddhism, a meditation area, and an observation deck at 85 meters, offering stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
The site is surrounded by beautiful gardens, including a seasonal flower park and a small zoo. It is a popular destination for both spiritual visitors and tourists.
