The journey begins with Tucson’s establishment as a Spanish Colonial Presidio in 1775. The tour continues with a visit to a historic Sonoran Row House from the 1850s, where participants will discover how these buildings were designed for the desert climate.
The next stop is the Historic Pima County Courthouse, where the story of the Dillinger Gang’s 1934 capture in Tucson is shared. Participants will also hear about Tucson’s first cathedral and a renowned gunfighter who celebrated in Tucson.
The tour includes a visit to the historic Fox Tucson Theatre and Tucson’s first skyscraper. Participants will explore the Hotel Congress and discuss the Rialto Theatre, both rich in history. The tour proceeds to the Railroad Depot, where a steam locomotive from the movie Oklahoma is on display, and the tale of Doc Holliday and Wyatt Earp’s visit to the depot is recounted.
The tour concludes at Jacome Plaza, where participants will learn about a luxury hotel and the downtown department store scene that received national recognition.
