In 2019, the Tully River was the host venue for the International Rafting Federation’s World Rafting Championships. Renowned globally, this river ensures a peak rafting adventure, boasting over 40 rapids that surge through a magnificent rainforest gorge. Rated as a Grade 4/5 river, the Tully promises an intense, unforgettable journey for those hunting for the ultimate rafting experience in Australia.
We offer two distinct schedules to enjoy the Tully River, which you can view below; these two are identical except for their respective departure times. The Tully River operates on a hydro power system, hence scheduled activities depend on the water release timings.
- Children aged 13-18 years require a parent or guardians counter signature on waiver form
- Please bring lace-up shoes (that WILL get wet), swim suit and towel, a change of dry clothes, and waterproof sunscreen
- Minimum age is 13 years
- Not suitable for anyone who may be pregnant

Best day in Cairns - This has to be one of the best days in Cairns. Beautiful scenery with exhilarating activities. They run a professional show. My family loved it

Amazing trip. Outstanding... - Amazing trip. Outstanding guides and exceptional rapids. The only down thing I’d say is there is no where to change after the trip. Maybe buy some pop up tents for the women to change in

Amazing experience - The tour guide Andy from Cairns adventure group was awesome. He knew the river well, was entertaining, inclusive with conversation throughout the day, made everyone feel safe and happy. Unfortunately incorrect information from Trip advisor was given to me about pick up location from South Mission Beach where we were staying. We were told no bus pick up from South Mission Beach but the company actually did. This was the only hiccup. Well done Raging Thunder for the experience.

Great rafting tour! - We loved our rafting tour! We have been white water rafting in the US and this was our favorite experience by far! Our guide Matthew was perfect for our family and tailored the trip for us to get the maximum enjoyment. We highly recommend this trip.

Fun. Would do it again - O yeah, water and stuff, pretty fun whatever who cares but good. Yeah nah, some splashing and like rocks! So what, who knows, pretty good fun all up. You beauty, true blue was with a great mate and missus. Would do it again for sure loved it.

Plan on easy to change... - Plan on easy to change into clothing. The end of the rafting trip is in an area with no infrastructure.

What a great experience - What an experience. We had Sam as our rafting guide, he was a great bloke, experienced and very accommodating for everyone on our raft. The experience was so good I’d recommend everyone to do it. All the staff were great, whether it was drive to the river, the other guides or the girls running down the river taking photos everyone made the experience great.
To top it off the post rafting feed was good too. (Grab the chicken burger)

Excellent trip - The Tully river is spectacular. Incredible whitewater, stunning scenery & awesome staff. Our guide Paul took great care of us and made sure we all had a fun day. He even knows a few key words in mandarin (we were all from china). I highly recommend this company.

Challenging, thrilling! A can't miss! - Where to start....
Picked up in a comfortable coach bus for our ride to Tully (about 90 minutes from Cairns).
Even though we are experienced rafters, the crew did a great job of education and safety tips. Our guides, Sam and Paulie, were great--patient, fun, and clear with instructions.
The river was awesome!! So much fun going down the Class 3-4 rapids! Hang on to your paddles, as you bounce from rapid to rapid!I would recommend NOT wearing any watches or jewelry because there's a high risk of it coming loose, breaking, and falling off. My watch band broke and fell off. Luckily, we found it in the boat. The scenery was beautiful too!!
Finished the day with a warm, hearty meal at a local pub. The food was hot and delicious.
Special shout out to Damien and Dan--- my husband left his phone in a bathroom in Tully. They went above and beyond to try to help him find it. (No luck though: () Also, a traveller wasn't feeling well after the experience and they made special arrangements to get her home faster.

Everyone should try this adventure - Unmissable fun to be had. Adventurous or not, this activity safely expands your comfort zone in a spectacular tropical setting.
Experienced guides lead you safely through grade 3&4 rapids sharing detail of the geography, the wildlife and the human history of the area whilst also teaching you some basic rafting skills.
Finish the day with a pub meal and photo montage of the trip- brilliant.
