Mexico, our first taste of the riviera maya and the trips on offer - My son and I had 7 days free (which doesn’t happen often) so we came to Mexico. First timers and we were not disappointed. We chose to visit Tulum, a cenote and swim with turtles, but it was much more! Our guide Cesar was amazing. He had a difficult job as a mixed audience were on the trip including English, German and Spanish speaking people and multiple youngsters in the group too. We were skeptical as we had booked outside our TUI guide, but we had nothing to worry about. Tulum probably deserves a full day but with the time we had available we got the picture and took some amazing photos. Lunch was given to us. The cenote was unbelievable! Beautiful clear water, amazing underground caves with the most beautiful array of stalagtites, bats sleeping! All very carefully managed as well as respecting the cave and the wildlife (life jackets; torches (no camera flashes). Then the highlight of the day, we donned life jackets again, masks and snorkels, we were given a demonstration of rules in water and what to do when we saw a turtle ( to ensure they and their environment are not harmed). We had 3 guides and it was well executed. We saw many feeding turtles, they swam past us for air. Utterly amazing. Then we swam to the coral reef! The array of different fish was so wonderful, colourful, swimming around you! We even saw a stingray. What a memorable day for us, we will cherish it always. Thank you Caesar and team!

Amazing experience - Excellent experience the whole tour by our guide Caesar, who did an excellent job as host of the whole tour.
Nico the anthropological guide explained everything very well during the visit to Tulum.
Manu the turtle snorkeler in Akumal also did very well, always attentive to the group
Overall an amazing experience and highly recommended!

Great tour, with great guides! - We have just been on the Tulum, cenote and turtles tour. What an experience! Our guide Cesar was amazing! Super friendly and knowledgeable. I was impressed with his communication skills, especially as we were a multi national group, Cesar worked hard to ensure everyone understood everything he said. Shout out to the driver Marco too. Recommend taking a hat/ umbrella for the tulum ruins tour as the sun is unbearable at times, and if you choose to stand in what little shade there is, then take mosquito spray! Would highly recommend!

Reasonable, but could be better - While the experience was acceptable, overall, it was coordinated in a way that was somewhat confusing and did not follow the order of what was listed in the experience. We were shuffled several times throughout the day into different vans, with different people, sometimes not clear as to what we were supposed to be doing. We had different drivers and guided for each part of the excursion.
The highlight of the trip was the visit to the cenote, which included swimming a distance (with life jackets on) into the cave to explore the limestone stalagtites. The low point was the horseback ride. Instead of a guide taking us out onto a trail, we mounted horses, and were led by men on foot holding onto a halter and walking us down a well traveled road about half a mile and back. The visit to the ruins was nice, but unorganized. We got out of the van and were told to stand with another person. It wasn't clear what we were waiting for as we stood there 15 minutes. We then got wristbands and went about 100 yards only to stop for another 10-15 minutes in front of a souvenir store (a bathroom stop). We finally walked into the ruins and were able to explore, some of the time guided, some of the time alone.
Again, overall, it was marginally acceptable, but could have been more satisfactory.

Waste of time and money - The “jungle horseback riding adventure” took 10 minutes, the Tulum ruins tour was 25 minutes. The 45-minute cenote tour was the highlight.
The day started at 8:30 and ended at 3:15. What did we do with the ~FIVE HOURS that weren’t spent on these activities? Mostly waiting around, standing in lines and moving from hot van to hot van. There was an OK lunch and a “Mayan cultural ceremony” — conveniently located in front of the gift shop.
All of the ziplining/cenote/ATV /horseback tours (in any combination) in the area are run by the same company. The zipline looked modest and I suspect the ATV activity would be as short as the horseback ride. If you choose to book one of these tours — in any combination — have realistic expectations.

Think on what part of the tour matters most! - The guidance and information on hand during the Tulum Ruins was done quiet well. The cenote and horseback riding left something to be desired and made the days experience a disappointment.

2 out of 5 - I’ll start with the good, the horseback riding was fun and the food was great. The bad: the tour bus was 30 minutes late, we got handed off to so many different guides, half our group had stuff on another bus so they were stressing, the cenote was really underwhelming, it was cool but nothing like the pictures of cenotes you see from a google search. The Mayan ruins were alright but the guide was very boring, views were really nice
