- Derreen - Travel towards Derreen and Lauragh, taking smaller roads that lead away from the usual paths, unveiling breathtaking views en route to this scenic area beneath the Healy Pass and alongside Glanmore Lake. Explore the lakeside and the crystal-clear river flowing through a charming rural landscape. A visit to the woodland gardens at Derreen is also an option.
- Ardgroom Stone Circle - Perched on a hillside with spectacular views, this dream-like Stone Circle is an optional stop. Although parking is 5 - 10 minutes away, a moderate walk through softer ground is required, especially during wet conditions, but the effort is rewarding.
- Ring of Beara - At Ardgroom Village, follow the Ring of Beara, a narrow single-lane road tracing the coastline, offering a series of panoramic views of this magnificent coastal landscape along the wild Atlantic Way.
- Kilcatherine Church and Cemetery - Kilcatherine Church, located above the rugged Atlantic coastline, dates back to the 12th Century, built on an earlier ecclesiastical site from the 7th Century. Explore the church ruins and grounds, featuring many fine examples of headstones with Celtic crosses. Steeped in legends and folklore, discover the Hag of Beara, a short distance from the church.
- Ring of Beara - Continuing along the narrow, winding country lanes of the Ring of Beara, reach the vibrant villages of Eyeries and Allihies, offering access to delightful landscapes and vistas, some known only to locals, as the journey takes you through backroads and cul-de-sacs leading to secluded beaches and coves on the rocky coastline.
- Allihies - Allihies features remnants of 19th Century copper mining, including engine houses with distinctive chimneys and mine shafts dotting the landscape. Along the coast, discover the photogenic “Beara Bowl,” a natural circular rock formation facing the open Atlantic Ocean.
From here, visit the cable car linking Dursey Island to the mainland, stroll along some of the scenic sandy beaches along the rugged coastline, or capture the atmospheric famine ruins in the landscape.
- Dunboy Castle and Puxley Mansion - The ruins of the 15th-century Dunboy Castle are located at the end of a narrow track at the channel between Bear Island and Castletownbere. Also noteworthy are the gatehouses to Puxley Mansion, which towers above the castle ruins.
- Castletownbere - Take a break in Castletownbere to explore the historic fishing port and discover the intriguing galleries and charming shopfronts along the main street.
- Healy Pass - A famine relief project, The Healy Pass, originally “The Kerry Pass,” links the north and south sides of the Beara peninsula. Starting from Adrigole Bridge in County Cork, the road winds to the pass, crossing the Caha mountain range at about 300m, and descends into a scenic valley to Lauragh Bridge in County Kerry. Enjoy captivating views over the Kenmare River, Bantry Bay, and the Glanmore Lake area at various stops along the way.
