- David Gareja Monastery - The David Gareja Monastery is a Georgian Orthodox complex carved into the rock on the semi-arid slopes of Mount Gareja. It features numerous cells, churches, chapels, dining halls, and living spaces carved into the rock face. Part of the David Gareja complex (Bertubani Monastery) lies on the Azerbaijan–Georgia border, leading to a border dispute between the two nations. The area is also home to protected wildlife and evidence of some of the region’s earliest human settlements. Founded in the 6th century by David (St. David Garejeli), one of the thirteen Assyrian monks who arrived in Georgia simultaneously, the monastery was expanded by his disciples Dodo and Luciane, who established two additional monasteries: Dodo’s Rka (“the horn of Dodo”) and Natlismtsemeli (“the Baptist”). The monastery further developed under the 9th-century Georgian saint Hilarion the Iberian.
- Bodbe Monastery of St. Nino - The Monastery of St. Nino is a Georgian Orthodox monastic complex and the seat of the Bishops of Bodbe. It currently operates as a nunnery due to its connection with St. Nino, the 4th-century female evangelist of the Georgians. The existing church, a three-nave basilica, was originally constructed between the 9th and 11th centuries, with restorations made in the 17th and 19th centuries.
- Sighnaghi - Sighnaghi is situated on a steep hill, offering views over the expansive Alazani Valley with the distant Caucasus Mountains. The word Sighnaghi means shelter or trench in the Turkic language. The settlement of Signagi was first documented in the early 18th century. In 1762, King Heraclius II of Georgia built a fortress to protect the area from raids by Dagestan tribesmen. Known as the “City of Love,” Signagi allows couples to marry at any time, day or night.
- Signagi City Walls - In 1762, King Heraclius II of Georgia constructed the wall around the fortress to protect the area from raids by Dagestan tribesmen. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of the Alazani Valley.
