Journey to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - Embark on an unforgettable Gorilla Trekking Safari. Depart from Kampala early, heading towards Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to start your 3-Day Gorilla Trekking Safari. Bottled water is available in the vehicle.
The drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest offers breathtaking views, especially as you approach the forest. This region is often referred to as the Switzerland of Africa due to its terraced mountains and hillsides.
Lunch is enjoyed en route to Bwindi Forest in Mbarara. Arrival in the Ruhija Area of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is expected in the late afternoon. Check into Bakiga Lodge in Ruhija.
Bakiga Lodge is a charming, community-owned and managed mid-range lodge featuring private cottages, including a family cottage with views of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. It is considered one of the top mid-range lodges in the Ruhija Area of the Park, offering excellent value for money.
The lodge is owned and operated by the Bakiga Community Organization.
Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Ruhija Area and continue to Lake Bunyonyi after the trek
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - Start the day with an early breakfast and head to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park offices in Ruhija for the Mountain Gorilla Tracking (Trekking) orientation. Meet with guides and be divided into groups based on the gorilla group you will be tracking.
A daypack is essential. A packed lunch from Haven Lodge is included, along with two liters of bottled water.
Wear well-broken-in hiking boots, long trousers, and a long-sleeved shirt for protection. Apply non-perfumed insect repellent to guard against flies and other insects. A sturdy pair of gardening gloves is recommended for protection against thorns and nettles.
A wide-brimmed hat is ideal, and sunglasses are useful once the morning mist clears. Don’t forget to apply sun protection lotion to your face.
Your driver will assist in hiring a porter, allowing you to focus on the trek and the gorillas.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - The Gorilla Trek:
The trek begins with an orientation where you are assigned a Gorilla Family to trek. The Uganda Wildlife Ranger assigns groups based on age, fitness level, and preferences.
If you have a cold, cough, flu, or other contagious illnesses, you will not be permitted to trek the gorillas.
The trek in the Buhoma area is at a lower elevation, so altitude is not an issue. The trek lasts three to five hours. Pre-trackers are in the forest locating the gorilla family you will visit.
Encountering a Gorilla Family is a truly unique experience. Mountain Gorillas can only be seen in the wild as they do not survive in captivity.
Lake Victoria - After the Gorilla Trek:
Lake Bunyonyi is an ideal spot to unwind and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere. The lake’s surface is smooth and reflective, with minimal wave action. The lush, green terraced hills surrounding Bunyonyi protect the lake from strong winds. Over 200 bird species have been identified here, making it a paradise for bird enthusiasts. Even non-birders will enjoy observing the activities of both small and large birds.
Lake Bunyonyi is more than just a tourist destination. Towns like Kyevu and Muko are located on its shores, and boats frequently transport villagers across the lake.
If time permits, take a guided boat tour to explore some of Bunyonyi’s 29 islands and experience local life. As a surprise, a few zebras from Lake Mburo National Park can be found on privately-owned Kyahugye Island.
Return Journey to Entebbe or Kampala
Uganda Equator - After breakfast, begin the return journey to Entebbe. This eight-hour drive includes a lunch break halfway to Entebbe or Kampala.
A must-see stop at the Equator offers the opportunity to take the traditional Equator picture. Enjoy lunch, a snack, a drink, and shop for souvenirs.
Arrive in Entebbe in the late afternoon. Hotel arrangements can be made for you. Many find a day room ideal for freshening up before their flight. This also allows for a leisurely dinner before departure.
Your safari concludes in Entebbe, and we are grateful you chose Lifetime Experience Safaris for your adventure in the Pearl of Africa, Uganda.
