● Begin the day with a drive to Kharhorin, the historic capital of the Great Mongolian Empire in the 13th century. Despite its status as an ancient capital, few remnants remain. Visit “Erdene Zuu,” one of the largest and oldest Buddhist monasteries, constructed in 1586 on the ruins of Kharhorin. Remarkably, it survived the communist purges of 1937 and now operates as a museum.
● Explore the local museum in Kharhorin city, where you can discover artifacts from Mongolian history, spanning from the early Stone Age to the Great Mongolian Empire. The museum boasts an impressive collection of items unearthed from excavations and expeditions in Kharhorin and the Orkhon Valley. After the museum, visit other attractions such as the phallic rock and Turtle rocks.
