Ovorkhangai - Travel from Ulaanbaatar to Kharhorin by local bus, covering 365km at 11am and 2pm daily, taking approximately 6 hours.

● Kharhorin, once the capital of the Great Mongolian Empire in the 13th century, has few remnants of its historic past. Visit “Erdene Zuu,” one of the largest and oldest Buddhist monasteries, built on the ruins of Kharhorin in 1586. It survived the communist purges of 1937 and now operates as a museum.
● Explore the local museum in Kharhorin city, showcasing Mongolian history from the early Stone Age to the Great Mongolian Empire. The museum features a vast collection of artifacts from excavations around Kharhorin and Orkhon Valley. Additional sites include the phallic rock and Turtle rocks.

Orkhon Valley

Ovorkhangai - Journey from Kharhorin to Orkhon Valley, covering 200km.
● Visit Orkhon Waterfall, located at the confluence of the Ulaan and Orkhon rivers. Known as Ulaan Tsutgalan, or Red Fall, it is Mongolia’s largest waterfall by height and width. During rainy seasons, the waterfall is spectacular, often creating rainbows.
● Enjoy a horse ride in the valley.

Horse Trekking to Eight Lakes

Ovorkhangai - Travel from Orkhon Waterfall to Eight Lakes, approximately a 4-5 hour horse ride.

Hiking to Shireet Lake

• Drive to Tuvkhun Monastery and trek through mountains and forests to reach it. Zanabazar, Mongolia’s first religious leader, created the Soyombo alphabet here. The monastery is situated 2312 meters (1.44 miles) above sea level, offering a stunning view of the Khangai range. Enjoy a picnic in this exceptional setting, overlooking Orkhon Valley.
