It is situated on the right bank of the Orkhon River, 400 km southwest of Ulaanbaatar, the current capital of Mongolia. In 1380, Karakorum was destroyed, but about two centuries later, the yurt of Avtai Khan, founder of the Erdene Zuu Monastery, was established on the same site. Kharkhorin city is rich in sightseeing and historical sites. The Elsen Tasarkhai sand dunes offer a semi-desert landscape with impressive sand dunes. Lunch will be enjoyed en route, followed by a transfer to another family ger. An optional camel ride is available before dinner, and after dining, there is an opportunity to hike around the sand dunes and witness a stunning sunset.
