Best day trip in Mongolia from Ulaanbaatar - Signing up this day trip is the highlight of my trip in Mongolia. Everything about this trip is smooth. The tour guide / driver is very experienced and thoughtful. He explained things in details in each location, took great photos for us, and also allow us to spend adequate time in each location. If you have little time in Mongolia, do make sure to sign up this trip!

Awesome site, a must see !! - Outside of the Capital, maybe a 40 minute drive. There is not much surrounding it, but the drive is pleasant, and you might see a few camels along the way. This monument is huge !!! It can be seen for miles. A good walk up. Inside there is a mini museum, gift shops, food and many displays. Amazing to see in person.

Good so far - At first, me and my husband not really expect too much about this tour. But after we met the tour guide, his name was Dorj, we found that this experience was beyond our expectations. He told us so much about histories, political issue, etc that happened/happening in mongolia, he can communicate in english fluently. We went to chinggis khan statue and museums, tried traditional outfit, rode camel, hiked to the turtle rock, lastly went to the monastery. Our tour guide is a professional photographer so we had great memories because he did very well with camera. We want to give 5 stars but i think he forgot to showed last place to us, its the department store or something, he just skipped it without explanation so we didn't go there. He also dropped us not in the front of hotel so we need to walk a little bit far. Anyway i think this trip wont be perfect without good tour guide.

Rushed and Shallow: Missed Opportunity for Real Insight - You’ll see the statue, sit in a Ger with warm milk and cookies, visit Turtle Rock, and tour a monastery. You’ll hold an eagle, ride a camel, and possibly ride a horse. It sounds fun, but the reality is different. If you’re bored in Ulaanbaatar, this trip might be a decent distraction. However, our guide rushed us through each stop, leaving little time for photos, exploration, shopping, or even a moment alone. We were constantly herded around like schoolchildren, despite being only three in the group. This is a very touristy tour. The statue is impressive, but we spent only about four minutes on top. The Ger visit was awkward—six minutes sitting across from a silent family. Turtle Rock is just that—a rock near an unfinished Shangri-La Hotel. The monastery is beautifully located, but the visit was a rushed walk there and back. Our guide was poorly informed. He claimed the Taj Mahal was built by a Mongolian (in truth, the builder was seven generations removed from Mongol ancestry - hundreds of years). He also insisted Mongolia is the most beautiful country in the world, that “real men” only drink vodka, never eat vegetables and fight, and other stereotypes. He provided no real facts about Mongolia or cultural insights. When asked questions he couldn’t answer, he would nod and say, “Yes, yes,” before ignoring them. On the way back, he suggested we sleep—effectively shutting down any more conversation. But then, this is his third job - he teaches soccer, drives this tour and I forgot the other one. I booked this tour because of its glowing five-star reviews, but it was the worst guiding experience I’ve had in over 100 countries. The guide wasn’t malicious, just woefully uneducated. It’s too bad - because when you get a great guide - it makes the country really come alive and you leave with a better understanding of the people, place, history. The eagle and camel are quick photo ops right by the statue—two minutes with the eagle and a short walk to the camel. There was no woodland walk. We paid for a horse ride, but no one was available, and besides this was at the 15 minutes Turtle Rock stop - which shouldn’t EVER be on a tourist list, it is quite literally some big rocks that vaguely look like a turtle next to the unfinished Shangrila Hotel… Why? The entire experience felt like a farce. We were crammed into a small car, not a comfortable van. We made the most of it by escaping Ulaanbaatar and grabbing a few quick photos. We’re usually pretty happy - laid back travelers - but honestly, if you’re looking for a quality experience, I’d suggest finding a different tour company with better guides.
