Zaisan Memorial - Situated in the southern part of Ulaanbaatar, Zaisan Hill provides a sweeping view of the city center. It is a favored spot for locals to unwind and a popular attraction for tourists. Atop Zaisan Hill is the Soviet Soldiers’ Memorial Complex, commemorating the Soviet soldiers who valiantly fought and perished in the Battle of Khalkhin Gol. The memorial’s construction began in 1969 under the guidance of architect A. Khishigt and was inaugurated in 1971 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Mongolian People’s Revolution. Visitors can reach the memorial by ascending a staircase of over 600 steps, stretching approximately 300 meters. At the heart of the circular memorial area is an eternal flame, symbolizing the perpetual remembrance of the fallen soldiers. The inner wall showcases mosaic artworks illustrating the historical friendship between the Mongolian and Soviet peoples, while the outer wall is adorned with national patterns and honorary emblems.
Chinggis Khaan Statue and Gorkhi Terelj - The Genghis Khan Equestrian Statue, part of the Genghis Khan Statue Complex, is a 40-meter-tall stainless steel statue of Genghis Khan on horseback, recognized as the world’s tallest equestrian statue. Visitors can admire the statue from outside and also enter to reach the horse’s head viewing platform. It is located near the Tuul River at Tsonjin Boldog, 54 km (33.5 miles) east of Ulaanbaatar, where legend says Genghis Khan discovered a golden whip. The statue is symbolically oriented eastward towards his birthplace. The statue is mounted on a 10-meter-tall visitor center with 36 columns representing the 36 khans from Genghis Khan to Ligdan Khan. Designed by sculptor D. Erdenebileg and architect J. Enkhjargal, it was erected and opened in 2008 to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the Mongol Empire’s founding.

Journey to Ugii Lake
Ugii Lake - Ugii Lake is nourished by the Orkhon River from the west, with the Khooloin River flowing into the Orkhon River from the northwest. It is covered with ice from November to May. Researchers have identified 14 species of fish in the Orkhon River basin, including red bream, pike, bream, perch, rudd, bream, silver bream, and pike, 27 species of floating plants, and 48 species of floating animals. This lake is home to approximately 150 species of waterfowl. Due to its rare birds such as the common goose and spoonbill, it has been registered in the International Network for the Conservation of Geese and Ducks of Northeast Asia. As the lake is sacred, women are prohibited from entering it. To protect the wetland ecosystem, Lake Ogii was registered in the Ramsar Convention at an international meeting held in 1971.
