Naadam, also known locally as ‘eriin gurvan naadam,’ is a time-honored festival in Mongolia that translates to ‘The three games of men’. These games, which occur countrywide during the midsummer holidays, encompass Mongolian wrestling, horse racing, and archery. Even though women have started to partake in archery and girls in horse racing, Mongolian wrestling remains exclusively male-dominated. In 2010, UNESCO incorporated Naadam into the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The most sought-after element of the Naadam festival is the opening ceremony, for which tickets are notoriously scarce.
Khuvsgul Lake is a deep blue gem set within the Darkhad valley, a location graced by over 200 lakes. These bodies of water, circled by towering forest-covered mountains and expansive marshland, are the dwelling place of the Tsaatan ethnic minority, also known as the reindeer people.
