Chinchero - Guests will be picked up from their hotel in Cusco at 7:00 am. The journey begins with a drive to the Sacred Valley, with the first stop at the village of Chinchero. This charming town is renowned for its vibrant textile creations. During the tour, visitors will discover the traditional methods artisans use to craft and dye their textiles. The tour also includes a visit to the town’s main square, featuring stunning colonial architecture built atop ancient Inca ruins.
Salinas de Maras - The next destination is the Salt Mines of Maras, utilized by locals since the Inca era. According to legend, the salt originates from the tears of the mythical hero Ayar Cachi, who was trapped by his brothers inside a nearby mountain. Maras boasts approximately 3,000 salt wells, sourced from the Qaqawiñay mountain. This location produces the esteemed “Pink Salt,” known for its unique hues due to the minerals in the soil.
Moray - Moray consists of a series of circular agricultural terraces near Maras. Experts suggest this site was used by the Incas as a research center for cultivating plants from various regions. Some historians also propose that Moray served as a center for astronomical observations and weather prediction.
Urubamba - Following the visit to Moray, the tour proceeds to Urubamba for a buffet lunch at a local restaurant. Urubamba, also called the “Pearl of the Vilcanota,” is situated in the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. This quaint colonial town features a picturesque main square, notable for its palm trees planted alongside other native plant species.
Ollantaytambo - After lunch, the journey continues through the breathtaking Sacred Valley of the Incas, with the next stop at the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo. This site is distinguished by its massive stone structures, some reaching heights of 4 meters. Ollantaytambo also features numerous terraces visible from the nearby town. The exploration of Ollantaytambo will last until the afternoon, followed by a train ride to Aguas Calientes.
Aguas Calientes - Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, guests will be escorted to their hotel, where they can unwind and prepare for the following day.
Machu Picchu Tour
Machu Picchu - The following day begins with an early bus ride to Machu Picchu. After a brief 30-minute journey, the group will arrive at the Inca citadel. The staff will provide a guided tour of the citadel, assisting at the security checkpoints at the entrance.
Machu Picchu is nestled in the heart of the Peruvian Andes, near the Amazon basin. Constructed in the 15th century, the citadel was abandoned after the Spanish conquest. It was rediscovered in 1911 during an expedition led by American explorer Hiram Bingham.
Machu Picchu is renowned for its exquisite stone buildings, exemplifying Inca architecture.
After the guided tour, guests are free to explore the citadel independently. There is also an option to hike to the Machu Picchu or Huayna Picchu mountains, though tickets for these areas must be purchased in advance.
The tour then returns to Aguas Calientes.
Aguas Calientes - Back in Aguas Calientes, guests can explore the town at their leisure. They may enjoy lunch at one of the many restaurants or sample local dishes at the market. Additionally, visitors can relax at the hot springs, which give Aguas Calientes its name.
In the evening, the group will board a train to Ollantaytambo, followed by a drive back to Cusco, arriving around 9:00 pm.
