The Inca Trail adventure begins with a transfer from the hotel to the train station, followed by a train ride to Kilometer 104. From there, the trek starts with an approximately 3-hour hike to the well-preserved ruins of Wiñay Wayna, situated at an altitude of 2900 meters. Along the way, trekkers can enjoy the sight of stunning waterfalls. After lunch, the journey continues for about 2 more hours to reach the Sun Gate, followed by a descent to the Machu Picchu Inca site for more photographs, and then to the hotel in Aguas Calientes.
Second Inca Trail Day: Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu
After breakfast, the day begins early with a 1.5-hour walk to reveal one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of modern times, Machu Picchu. Visitors can reach the most picturesque spot, the postcard site, to capture stunning photos. The guide will provide a 2-hour explanation of Machu Picchu’s history, after which there will be ample free time to explore independently. Visitors can also choose to climb Huayna Picchu Mountain, which takes about one hour up and one hour down. After enjoying Machu Picchu, it is essential to be at Aguas Calientes station to catch the train back to Ollanta and then take a bus back to Cusco.
