The Treadwell mine collapse in 1917 marked the end of a significant era of gold mining and industry in Alaska. Today, the preserved remnants of this vast site rest quietly amidst the trees.
Although the forest has encroached upon it, the foundations, machinery, and stories endure. This guided walking tour leads participants through the original streets of Treadwell, past towering ruins, old mine shafts, and to the edge of the 1917 cave-in. Along the route, strategically placed immersive media scenes vividly bring key historical moments to life at their original locations.
The tour covers 2–3 miles of picturesque walking trails, highlighting a century-old industrial legacy that few visitors have the opportunity to witness. Throughout the journey, the guide shares tales of the individuals who both constructed and lost this extraordinary place.
