The hike begins on a broad, well-maintained trail along the Catawba River leading to Lower Catawba Falls. Located just east of Asheville, the stunning Catawba Falls can be found at the source of the Catawba River. The hike begins on a broad, well-maintained trail along the Catawba River leading to Lower Catawba Falls. Hikers will ascend the observation tower, which has 580 steps, to enjoy a breathtaking eastward view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The journey continues to Upper Catawba Falls, which was inaccessible to hikers until 2024. This hike covers approximately 3.5 miles round trip and is generally moderate, though not technical. It offers a wonderful opportunity to experience both expansive mountain vistas and waterfalls, making it a delightful hike throughout the year.
The small group hike, limited to 6 participants, convenes at 8:30 a.m. in downtown Asheville. Participants will meet their hiking guide and receive an overview of the itinerary. Snacks and transportation are provided.
Hikers should be prepared for all weather conditions and bring a rain jacket, an extra warm layer, and water. The guide can supply trekking poles, a daypack, and/or bottled water upon request.
