A prairie in the middle of a city? Discover it in East Dallas, and it’s a pleasure to introduce it to you. The Blackland prairie ecosystem is a distinctive and varied landscape, rich with stunning wildflowers and grasses. It’s believed that less than 1% of this extraordinary natural area remains across the state. This habitat supports numerous species of plants, birds, insects, and other small creatures. During this tour, participants will explore prairie remnants near White Rock Lake and learn about their history, ecology, and traditional uses by Native peoples.

Walking or light hiking is necessary. Some grasses are quite tall! Please wear long pants and closed-toed shoes. Remember to use sun protection and bring a refillable water bottle!
