CROSSING THE UYUNI SALT FLAT: THE TRAINS GRAVEYARD, HOTEL MADE OF SALT, AND THE ISLAND WITH CACTI AND PETRIFIED CORAL
Train Cemetery - The journey begins by gathering with the group at the office in Uyuni, where luggage can be stored if desired. Departure from Uyuni is around 10:30 a.m. to explore the Uyuni train cemetery.
In this unique and mysterious location, visitors will discover old train carriages that have been abandoned in the desert for over fifty years.
Colchani - Next, enjoy a visit to Colchani, where salt miners’ workshops offer a glimpse of salt-crafted handicrafts and llama and alpaca textile art. Explore “Ojos de Agua Salada,” where water bubbles through the salt flats, and visit a hotel made entirely of salt, now serving as a museum.
Isla Incahuasi - Then, hike to “Incahuasi Island” to admire towering cacti and rock formations of petrified coral. Be sure to capture photographs from unique angles. Lunch will be served, followed by the unforgettable experience of watching a stunning sunset over the salt flats.
Finally, around 7:00 pm, arrival at the hostel for dinner and rest in shared accommodations (double or triple rooms).
LAKES AND VOLCANOS
Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve of Andean Fauna - Later, enjoy the sights of the Cañapa, Hedionda, and Chiarcota lagoons, where flamingos and various other animals can be observed.
The day concludes with entry into the “Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve” (NATIONAL PARK), a visit to the Siloli Desert at 4550m (the highest and driest in the world), and a photo opportunity next to the “rock tree” (a lava rock formation).
Before reaching the final destination, a stop at the viewpoint near Laguna Colorada offers a chance to see more pink flamingos in their natural habitat and admire the vibrant red lake. The night will be spent in shared family accommodations in Huayllajara.
THE HOT SPRINGS SURROUNDED BY GEYSERS
Geiser Sol de la Mañana - Rise early to begin the day around 5:00 a.m. with a visit to the “Sol de Mañana” Geyser (5,000m), walking close to fumaroles and steaming craters filled with boiling mud at 160-210°C. Enjoy a bath in open-air Hot Springs with water at 32°C, then explore the Dali Desert and the Green Lagoon (toxic copper water at the base of the towering Licancabur volcano at 6000m, near the Bolivia-Chile border). Finally, return to Uyuni, taking in the beautiful scenery along the way and enjoying a picnic lunch by the roadside. The journey passes through Rock Valley, the Alota settlement, and the quaint town of San Cristóbal, where a baroque church and colonial paintings can be admired.
The expedition concludes with a return to Uyuni around 5:00 pm.
