- Amma Tookay Temple - The first temple built by hired workers was constructed from bamboo and straw. It was destroyed by a cyclone, but the statue remained. Despite attempts to move it, the statue stayed put. After the cyclone, the sugar camp relocated to Riche-Bois, leaving the temple abandoned. “Sacrifices” were made until Narainsamy Thungapen, a local planter, decided to rebuild it. With community support, he reconstructed the temple using wood and tin sheets. He and his wife maintained it until they transferred management to the Savanne Tamil Benevolent Society after 35 years. The temple was then rebuilt with concrete.
- Saint Aubin - Since 2003, the Saint-Aubin distillery has been producing agricultural rum, having previously cultivated sugar cane in the island’s south since 1819.
Jean Baptiste GUIMBEAU, who settled in Mauritius in 1793 and founded the St Aubin family business in 1819, initiated the production of this rum, which has been crafted for eight generations.
The company has since expanded into the sugar industry, tea production, agricultural rum, local products, and eco-tourism.
