A Genoese Island
Tabarca Island is situated off the coast of Santa Pola. Historically, the island’s shores served as a haven for Barbary pirates. In the 18th century, King Charles III commissioned the construction of a village to accommodate Genoese fishermen’s families who were captives in the city of Tabarka. Since then, the island has been inhabited by Genoese people, making it possible to visit even today.
