- Valletta - This tour offers a delightful walk through the lively streets of Valletta, where you can admire the stunning buildings, some of which date back to the 16th century, and the city’s unique architecture. Valletta is predominantly Baroque in style, with influences of Mannerist, Neo-Classical, and Modern architecture. The tour includes sights such as the Grand Master’s Palace, the beautifully restored St. George’s Square, and numerous other notable landmarks.
- Upper Barrakka Gardens - A visit to the Upper Barrakka Gardens is essential; here, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the magnificent Grand Harbour, providing a perfect setting for unforgettable photographs.
The gardens are situated on the upper tier of Saints Peter and Paul Bastion, constructed in the 1560s. The lower tier of the bastion houses the saluting battery. The garden’s terraced arches were built in 1661 by the Italian knight Fra Flaminio Balbiani. Originally, they were roofed, but the ceiling was removed after the Rising of the Priests in 1775.
- St. John’s Co-Cathedral - Next, we will explore the magnificent co-cathedral dedicated to St. John the Baptist, built by the Order of the Knights of St. John shortly after the Great Siege of 1565 and completed in 1577. It is undoubtedly one of the world’s most splendid cathedrals. Here, you can admire its opulent interiors, intricately carved stone walls, painted vaulted ceilings, exquisite paintings, precious relics, rich baroque art, and lavish altars. The entry ticket and guided tour of the cathedral are optional (please select this option when booking).
If you choose the option that excludes the cathedral visit, while the rest of the group enjoys a guided tour of the cathedral (approximately 45 minutes), you will have some free time to explore the streets of Valletta until we reconvene with the group at a specified time and location.
- The Malta Experience - Before concluding this half-day tour, we will enjoy an essential audio-visual show. Educational, informative, and entertaining, the show narrates the turbulent history of a small island nation that has triumphed over nearly insurmountable challenges to thrive. The audio-visual presentation will enhance your understanding of the islands, its people, and its rich history through stunning imagery and captivating commentary.
The audio-visual show is typically held at the end of the tour at the Malta Experience theatre; however, the provider reserves the right to alter the time and venue for the show without prior notice.
