A customized and personal tour of Valparaiso street art (with wine tasting) - A perfect day in Valparaiso! Our guide Daniel shared a special love of the city, its history, and its stunning murals with us. He was friendly and informative, showing us the best views, unique architecture, and streets full of gorgeous art, while also giving us time to wander and appreciate hidden corners. He tailored the tour to our interests and took amazing photographs. Highly recommend this tour with Daniel.

Fun and interesting, highly recommended - Fantastic day out. We really enjoyed the street art and the visit to the vineyard. Door to door service from and to the hotel. Our guide Daniel was very knowledgeable and fun and you could tell he loves his job. It was like visiting a town with a friend. The day was unrushed, unlike many other tours where they let you out of the bus just to take a picture before asking you to move on. Highly recommended and will book again with Daniel the next time we visit.

Don't miss this amazing tour! - Take this fantastic, high-quality day trip to Valparaíso with the friendly and knowledgeable Diego! As an architect who works in cultural heritage conservation, I typically do detailed planning of my own trips, because I like to see things off standard tour itineraries and also need more time to explore than most people. So, I am skeptical / picky when it comes to thinking about guided tours led by others. However, I could not figure out how to make this happen on my own in the time I had available, so I was looking at guided tour options on TripAdvisor and the Progressive Tours trip to Valparaiso stood out based upon the itinerary and reviews. I had no interest in rushing through Valparaiso to get to Viña del Mar. As Daniel from Progressive said - there are 1000s of places like Viña del Mar, but very few as special and unique as Valparaíso. So that is why they focus the tour on this beautiful and intriguing city - a World Heritage City, with a contemporary layer of street art. Diego picked me up at my hotel and we had great conversations on the drive there and back, ranging from Chilean history, the landscapes and vineyards we were looking at, soccer /football, Chile's leadership in solar energy and the innovative solar-panels / water heater combinations I kept seeing on residential rooftops, the indigenous Mapuche people of south-central Chile, and even the time he spent 4 months working in my birth state in the US! The day in Valpo was just great. We started with the boat tour of the bay, as rain was predicted later in the day. Great views of the city's hills and also of the port infrastructure, including floating drydocks and container ships being unloaded. Then on to Plaza Sotomayor, where Navy parades and events were already underway in advance of Navy Day on May 21. Then a ride up one of the funiculars to start walking the hills with their incredible views, historic architecture, and amazing street art everywhere. Diego was an enthusiastic guide, knowledgeable about the history and architecture of the city; his greatest strength, of course, was in knowing the various artists whose work we viewed. He brought me to a shop where several of the artists' whose work I admired sold small / medium sized canvases of their work. No pressure to buy anything, but I did buy two pieces to take home as mementos of a great day in a great city. Diego also gave me a few recommendations for a lunch restaurant - again I felt no pressure to choose one of them. I went with the option of no view of the bay but great food (you rarely get that combination of both a good view and good food). I really like the place - one of the best meals of my trip, great ambiance, and seemingly filled mostly locals. Diego adjusted the pace of the tour to allow for more time for me to take in the details while also trying to make sure I stayed somewhat on track so I got to see all that I wanted to see, including the interior of Neruda's house, La Sebastiana. I don't mind walking up and down hills (I lived in San Francisco, California for 15 years, which seems somewhat like a sister city to Valpo, so hills come with the territory); but I note for people that don't like hills as much as I do (or just can't physically manage them) that Diego plans the routes to minimize uphill walking, moving the vehicle as need be. I did this as a solo traveler / private tour, and I felt very safe the entire time. I look forward to a future return trip to Chile and potentially taking a full day trip to the winery trip (currently being developed) with Diego.

It's more than you expect! - Best tour ever! Diego, the guide on my tour, was very friendly, helpful, and knew the places we visited extremely well. The tour is exactly as described, ideal for those who want to explore the beautiful hills of Valparaíso at a relaxed pace — the highlight of the day. Without a doubt, this was the best tour I’ve ever taken, and how all tours should be. I booked this tour based on the reviews — which stood out from the typical day tours to Valparaíso — and I can now confirm they were completely accurate.

Just book!!!! - Wow. What an amazing day we had on this tour yesterday. From start to finish we were looked after so well. Diego was our guide. He was the most perfect guide. He was so kind and informative. He went out of his way to ask and respond positively to our requests and even gave us an extra Santiago tour on the way home knowing that we hadn’t seen certain areas. The day was so well organised and we were able to enjoy our experience in a relaxed manner. This tour takes you to a wonderful winery cellar door with a very good tasting with great explanations about the wines. You’ll even meet some of their Alpacas. After that we had a boat cruise along the coast of Valparaiso where we were treated to sea lions , along with a lovely coastline where you can appreciates the hills of Valparaiso Then to the street art in the hills. Exceptional. Diego took us to pretty much every piece of wall art and there is a lot. I can’t recommend this tour more highly. There are many companies offering tours to Valparaiso but this must be one of the very best. Small and intimate. Diego felt like a friend by the end of it. Superb 🙏

Art, culture and Wine for the chilled out People - We chose this tour based on the promise of a relaxed tour to spend more time enjoying a couple of areas, rather than being rushed around on a tourist conveyor belt. We got exactly that and we enjoyed the day very much. Diego was a friendly, easy going guy who was great to converse with. We enjoyed beautiful Art, good food and a relaxed visit to a Winery. We felt comfy asking him any questions we wanted about the Country in general and the day actually felt like a holiday rather than stressing about keeping to schedule. We are sure that Diego had stress due to the unforeseen nightmare of traffic due to a metro closure but he never let on to us! He's a cool Dude and you should book his tours.

Daniel took us on an... - Daniel took us on an amazing tour that started in Santiago and crossed the Maipo Valley and continued to a stop at a vineyard in the Casablanca Valley. Through the drive, Daniel shared geological and historical tidbits that would serve as context for what we would later see in Valparaiso. It was obvious that the tour was very intentionally planned to allow for a quality experience that bypassed many crowds: Visiting the vineyard for a winetasting early in the day afforded us the opportunity to have nearly the whole place to ourselves. We were given a personal wine tasting and then were able to roam the vineyards and even see some alpacas. As we arrived in Valparaiso and continued up to our first stop, Daniel share more history about the Mapuche people and their influence. He pointed out different pieces of street art and talked about artists who used particular styles or themes throughout the city. At our first stop in the city, we were given time to explore the area near one of Pablo Neruda's houses and use the restroom if needed. After about thirty minutes, we met back up with Daniel to explore another hill. Throughout the day, Daniel took us to a number of different hills, each of which was covered with beautiful art and provided amazing vistas. Daniel provided a perfect balance of guided time where he shared information and introduced us to locals and free time where we could explore streets and alleys on our own, visit local shops, and grab lunch/snacks at our leisure. We ended the tour with a boat ride to view the city from the water. Daniel explained that he felt that a port city should be viewed from the water, and it truly was the perfect end to a lovely day.

Simply excellent - Just believe all the existing 5 star reviews. Doing these sorts of days with a small group is always better - and we got even luckier because they already had a full group so Daniel took just the two of us. All the elements (travel, Valparaiso, vineyard, etc) were great but it was the conversations and insights with Daniel that made the day for us. He is smart, funny, super-knowledgeable, and wants you to learn, know and love his country as much as he does…warts and all.
