The Old Goa Heritage Walk delves into intriguing aspects of Portuguese rule. Old Goa, once the capital of Goa, was a bustling city even before the Portuguese era, serving as the capital of the Bahmani Sultan Adil Shah empire. The Portuguese, led by Afonso de Albuquerque, arrived in 1510 and seized the city from Adil Shah, the ruler of the Bijapur Kingdom. Their mission was to engage in trade and eventually promote Christianity.
During the Old Goa Heritage Walk, participants can explore some of the most historically significant structures. Old Goa, a World Heritage site, is home to some of the region’s most magnificent and ancient churches.
Special Note: On certain days, when the Se Cathedral or Basilica of Bom Jesus is unavailable due to mass services, the tour will include a visit to the impressive Our Lady of Rosary Church on the historic Holy Hill as part of the Old Goa Heritage Walk.
