- Grande Albergo Ausonia Hungaria - Hotel Ausonia & Hungaria (1913) stands as a stunning example of luxury tourism from a century ago, featuring beautifully restored ceramic tiles on its main facade.
- Hotel des Bains - This former luxury hotel, established in 1900 to attract affluent tourists, is famous for Thomas Mann’s stay in 1911 and for being a filming location for movies like “Death in Venice” by Visconti (1971) and “The English Patient” (1996).
- Ristorante Mostra Del Cinema - The world’s oldest festival takes place here in late August or early September, with screenings at the historic Palazzo del Cinema. The Art Nouveau Hotel Excelsior (1908) continues to host producers and actors during the Festival.
- Malamocco - From the beach, the journey leads into this quaint fishing village via Ponte di Borgo, exploring its canals and calli, offering a less overwhelming lagoon town experience with a few churches and a Gothic palazzo, resembling a miniature Venice!
- Bagni Alberoni - After a few kilometers, Alberoni beach is reached, located at the western tip of Lido (opposite San Nicolo). This natural beach features a maritime pine forest leading to Lido’s most scenic and wild beach. These captivating dune fields inspired Shelley’s poems and Byron’s early morning rides. Often, the beach is nearly deserted, except for numerous marine birds and a few kite surfers or windsurfers on windy days. A break will be taken here before boarding a ferry to Pellestrina island.
- Murazzi - The route offers a wild adventure biking along the Murazzi, a scenic path following the Adriatic Sea. Murazzi is an impressive 18th-century engineering feat: these massive sea walls are a Herculean achievement from the pre-industrial age. Designed to prevent high seas from crashing into the lagoon, they still serve as an effective breakwater today. Murazzi are constructed with large blocks of Istrian stone and are also found on Lido’s sister island.
- Pellestrina - The journey continues biking along this 7 km long island, extending south of Lido and mirroring its long, winding shape. The island hosts three close-knit fishing communities - San Pietro in Volta, Portosecco, and Pellestrina, all lined along the water’s edge in vibrant pastel colors.
- Chioggia - Known as “Little Venice,” Chioggia is a miniature version of Venice, featuring a few canals, notably the Canale Vena, and the distinctive narrow streets called calli. Chioggia boasts several medieval churches, extensively renovated during its peak prosperity in the 16th and 17th centuries. It is also a bustling fishing community, making it an excellent spot to enjoy fresh fish!
